Advantages: Brian Blessed's in it shouting "DIVE" alot! And it's got the best soundtrack to a film... ever! Disadvantages: Maybe to camp and colourful for some. Avoid if you lack a sense of humour or are looking for something high-brow.
the pure in heart, May find the golden grail, Oh oh - oh oh." The Queen lyrics say it all. Camp, daft, lunacy of the highest order, that's endlessly entertaining in its quirkiness and adroit sense of fun. This is majestic eighties genius and along with Evil Dead 2, The Princess Bride, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Big Trouble in Little China, you'll be hard pushed to find anything more relentlessly enjoyable. Don't listen to its po-faced detractors - for sheer cinema fun FlashGordon can't be beaten.
What's on the DVD - Apart from the film trailer, bugger all. Which is either a blessing or a curse. A blessing, in that the package concentrates solely on the film, which, after all is the main reason you're purchasing the DVD. Or a curse, because how many of you would actually like to hear an audio-commentary with Brian Blessed ...
of wood, had B movie dialogue and had terrible special effects, characters with a penchant for S&M and the soundtrack and costumes were camper than a campsite. But so what? This film is a movie version of a comic strip and it captured the essence of it brilliantly. All it needed was the "POW" captions you see in comics and it would be perfect. Essentially the film has an outlandish but simple plot. Ming the Merciless is a ruthless intergalactic dictator that enjoys torturing and destroying planets. His latest play thing is Earth. A "mad" scientist - Hans Zarkov foresees this kind of event and builds a rocket to try and prevent this but as scripts would have it, our hero, FlashGordon (a famous quarterback) and his recently acquired travelling companion Dale Arden (a travel agent) end up in this rocket with him on their way to Mongo ...

Advantages: Impressive special effects and action, well acted and written characters. Disadvantages: Poor plotline.
A basic storyline at best, with too much focus on action and the whole 'hero gets the girl' happy ending.
Having said that, the special effects and action scenes were, perhaps because of this, very impressive, the film succeded in making teleportation seem realistic, which is quite an impressive feat.
The characters themselves were quite believable and well acted, the main character, the selfish, using his power only for himself guy who evntually becomes a hero and saves the girl. This process made for entertaining viewing.
The battle hardned character was a good choice to add, it was good to have somebody who could fight the war that the hero can't, and it is difficult do decide who the protagonist is out of david and griffin.
Roland made an impressive antagonist, with the weapons, funds, skill and motives to fight the jumpers. His ...
