RoyandBraveheartwhen along came this glossy revision of the Arthurian legend, in which Lady Guinevere (Julia Ormond) is torn between her love for the noble King Arthur (Sean Connery) and the passionate knight Sir Lancelot (Richard Gere). As the story opens, Guinevere's lands are under attack by the evil knight Malagant (Ben Cross), and she must choose between marriage to Arthur and the security of Camelot, or encouraging the affections of Lancelot, who has heroically rescued her from a potentially lethal attack. Anyone looking for meticulous medieval authenticity won't find it here, but director Jerry Zucker (Ghost) keeps the action moving with exuberant spirit and glorious production values. Even if you don't completely believe Richard Gere as a somewhat too-contemporary Lancelot, the performances of Ormond and especially Connery are effortlessly appealing.--Jeff Shannon

Advantages: Decent film all round Disadvantages: Nothing special
...that I'm not sure of. First Knight is one of the many takes on the tale of King Arthur and his knights, and of course his wife Guinevere. This time, we get director Jerry Zucker at the helm, and he definitely gives us some entertainment and swashbuckling, with Richard Gere and Sean Connery as the two male leads providing some interesting combinations.
The plot revolves loosely around the legendary tale of Sir Lancelot's love affair with Guinevere ... ...turmoil in attempting to keep it secret from Arthur. All the while, Arthur's reign is threatened by a rogue warlord, Prince Malagant. Richard Gere and Julia Ormond play the scheming lovers, with Connery as a rather old Arthur. This I was surprised at, as the on screen age difference is very apparent and it seems less effective as a combination. Ben Cross is menacing enough as Malagant, andthe remainder of the cast support well.
The film makes Lancelot ...

Advantages: Some good action. Romance. Historical influence. Disadvantages: The plot/story.......some historical facts untrue.
The 1995 film starring Sean Connery and Richard Gere, Directed by Jerry Zucker.
Such actors as Sean Connery and Richard Gere are renowned for good performances for some of the best selling films of our time. However in The Knights Tale, both performances are far of their best; if this is because of the films plot I am unsure but my opinion is it is very probable.
The film is based on Guinevere and the legendary Camelot as alleys, due to Lady Guinevere ... ...love are the powers that detach such bliss. Richard Gere (Lancelot), full of such passion and romance sways the Lady Guineveres heart and comes out on top.
Positive points of the film are that their are some moderate/good action/battle scenes are shot.
All in all, for some viewers the film is worth watching. But for the most part viewers may be dissapointed with the films quality and story content. A poor film for such a pedigree cast. If you do ...

Advantages: See Review Disadvantages: Average Film at Best
This is a 1995 film starring Sean Connery and Richard Gere, directed by Jerry Zucker.
ABOUT FILM:
This is another story about King Arthur and Guinevere and Lancelot. Although it does not stick to all the historical King Arthur facts, it is OK at best.
This is very much a Love Story with the usual ending for Arthur, who loses out for everything. There are a number of good medieval fight scenes but overall the film is not particularly good. It is ... ...and Guinevere end up together at the end, with Arthur dying.
Sean Connery plays King Arthur, Richard Gere Lancelot and Julia Ormond Guinevere. Sean Connery plays his role OK, but Richard Gere is not exactly inspiring.
VERDICT:
I would not recommend this film, it is hardly a classic and is not really that good at all. ...

Advantages: Great fight scenes Disadvantages: definitely NOT a chickflick
...came out of the cinema with no real emotions concerning the characters. Most of the main cast have died in one way or another by the end of the film and it is difficult to accept the ending initially. I am grateful that the director and writer did not feel a need to tack on a fake happy ending as they did with "FirstKnight" for example.
I'll get it on DVD when it comes out, just to watch those glorious fights in technicolour again, but don't expect Oscar-winning tear-jerking scenes of high emotion.
You won't get it....

...on screen is an unpaid actor and the final siege of the castle is carried out by 200 Stirling University students, sure to be some of the first people to purchase this excellent DVD. Maybe you were unaware that the God cartoon figure that confronts our intrepid Knights mid-movie is based on the famous cricketer,’W-G Grace’.
Maybe you would be intrigued to know that anything that didn’t quite work on location was re-shot on Hampstead Heath, just ten minutes from Terry Gillian’s London home.
Yet more pointless clutter litters the second disc with an assortment of trailers, mostly in Japanese. “Python Artefacts”, which is more silliness or the shortened ‘Lego’ version of the Holy Grail for the kids.
A real time Michael Palin little piece about the use of coconuts is by far the worse extra here...

Advantages: Action Packed, Funny, Exciting and Tense Disadvantages: Werewolf's weren't 100%, but nothing really.
...I’m sure many of you will have different opinions; nevertheless I have to say before Dog Soldiers, I had never seen a werewolf movie I really enjoyed:
‘Ginger Snaps’ didn’t do it for me, I thought ‘Brotherhood of the Wolf’ wasn’t great and I noticed the age in ‘An American Werewolf in London/Paris’.
I first saw Dog Soldiers round a friends mid Last year, the very next week I brought it for myself on DVD. It is simply brilliant, best described as addictive and it is one of those films you can watch over and over again, still getting the same amount of excitement you received from the first time you watched it!
Dog Soldiers is classed as an action-horror, but I believe a wide – ranged audience can enjoy it. It is a fun film, filled with dark comedy, classy worth –...

Lancelot (Richard Gere) is a rogue with no ties, no enemies, and no fear- until he meets Lady Guinevere of Leonesse (Julia Ormond). She has promised to marry King Arthur (Sean Connery), not only because his armies can protect her country, but because she truly loves him. But her chance encounter with Lancelot as she prepared to enter Camelot stirs conflicting and powerful emotions within her. Arthur welcomes both into his city with open heart, little foreseeing how his great capacity for love and trust opens the doors for his own betrayal.
