Fireman Sam is a very popular children's character. This DVD was bought for my 3 year old who has taken a liking to him and especially Jupiter, the fire engine.

The front cover of the DVD has a picture of Jupiter with Sam, Elvis and the Station Officer inside and above this is the title, there is also a small picture of the mountain rescue helicopter in the background. The back cover of the case is a nice bright yellow colour on the middle with the names of the 6 episodes and a bit about Fireman Sam. Around the edge of the back cover is a bright red border.

THE DVD

There are a total of 5 episodes on the DVD.

1 - Danger: Falling Sheep.

This episode starts with the Fire Chief talking to the crew and telling them that they are all going to have to be extra alert as it is the school holidays and Norman is bound to get into trouble. We then see Norman who is going on an adventure, he is supposed to be meeting his friend for a picnic. His friend wonder where he is and they suddenly scare on of the sheep who is on the mountain where they bare having their picnic. The sheep falls over the side but it has a soft landing, it falls on Norman who is climbing up the side. Norman and the sheep get stuck so the children decide to call Fireman Sam.

Will Sam be able to save and rescue Norman and the sheep?

2 - Twist of Fate.

Mandy is going on a caving adventure with Norman and the Station Officer. As they set off on their adventure Norman looses his supplies from his bag as there is a hole in the bottom where the dog bit it. Norman and Mandy run off inside the cave down a secret passage. Norman believes that he has found gold but the Station Officer runs after them and tells then it is not gold. As they run further into the secret passage the Station Officer becomes stuck and he is blocking the only way in or out of the passage.

Will Fireman Sam and the team find the children and the Station Officer and rescue them?

3 - A Real Live Wire

At the beginning of this episode we are show the fire team training to put out electrical fires and the are told how to do it in the correct way.

We then meet Mandy who is helping her Mom to mend on of her teddies, she tells her Mom that she is getting too old for teddies and that she wants a pet. Her Mom tells her that she cant have one as she is allergic to them. Back at the fire station a squirrel has been chewing through the electrical cable to the kettle so Sam says they must fix it at once. The squirrel runs off where he gets chased by a dog and is stuck up a tree with the dog barking at it. Mandy rescues the squirrel and takes it home where he starts to chew through the cables in the house and starts a fire.

Will Sam and the team remember their training and be able to put the electrical fire out in the correct and safe way?

4 - Bug-Eyed Boy From Venus

Fireman Sam is showing the children the stars through his telescope when they see a shooting star. Norman doesn't believe that it is a star, he thinks it is an alien space ship coming to lad. The following morning the children are on the school bus talking about the spaceship Norman thinks he saw when they spot a crop circle in a field. The children ask for the bus to stop and the driver tells them that it was not a space ship that made it. Norman has a good idea to make the village think that it was a space ship and he decides to dress up as an alien and he starts scaring people in the village.

Will Sam be able to solve the mystery of the alien and the spaceship?

5 - Bath Time for Dusty.

This episode starts with the Station Officer talking to Sam about the old times when he was in the forces and then he decides that the Fire station needs a mascot to help boost the moral. The children think that Dusty the dog would make the ideal mascot. Norman thinks that his sheep would be better and takes him to the station where he starts to eat the flowers and then bites the Station Officer. The sheep gets disqualified and Sam tells the children that Dusty is in with a good chance of winning but only if he has a bath and is nice and clean.

We then go to the Mountain rescue office where the mechanic is doing some work on the helicopter and he manages to start a fire in the shed.

The children try to bath Dusty but he runs off. The alarm at the station goes off and the team set off to the Mountain Rescue office. Will the team be able to put out the fire and will Dusty ever get his bath and become the station mascot?

SPECIAL FEATURES

On the DVD there are a few special feature which are:-

Animated Menu
Subtitles
Photo Gallery
Web Link

We enjoyed looking at the photo gallery but we have not used the web link yet as I feel that my 3 year old is just slightly too young to understand it but I will test it out on my 6 year old during the school holidays in the hope of entertaining him for a short time!

MY OPINION

This is a great DVD for all Fireman Sam fans. The episodes are all new and the children will enjoy them. There is always a happy ending and this helps make the episodes enjoyable for the children.

The animation is very good and consistent throughout. Each episode runs for about 10 minutes and you do have the choice of playing all of the episodes in one go or selecting a certain one. This means it is ideal if you only have the time to watch one or if like my little man they want to sit and watch them all you don't have to keep pressing play and trying to get the next episode up.

There are a few funny moments in the episodes with Norman price who is a typical naughty and mischievous little boy. I think this is my little mans favourite character. I think it would have been a bit nicer if we had seen more of the mountain rescue helicopter as he is quite popular but I suppose he cannot be used in every episode.

INFO

The run time for the DVD is 63 minutes. The DVD was produced by Siriol Productions. It has a Universal certificate which is very appropriate as it is suitable for children of all ages.

I picked this DVD up for £2.99 from Morrison's which is a great price so do shop around for a bargain as it will keep fans entertained for ages.
