Shane, a disturbed boy living alone with a fireman dad who is rarely at home, is still grieving over the death of his beloved uncle who was also a fireman (died in a fire), and is well on his way to becoming a juvenile delinquent - until he meets up with Rexxx a.k.a. Dewey. Rexxx is a pampered canine movie star who, luckily for Shane, fell out of an airplane while filming his latest movie.

When the two pair up, it definitely isn't love-at-first-sight, however, Dewey, as Shane has named him, is a no-nonsense canine with an attitude, and he isn't about to let Shane wallow in self-pity and anger.

'Firehouse Dog' is not the average canine-caper, but a well-written and wonderfully executed movie with a great storyline and loads of comic entertainment. In all honesty, when I received this movie, I took one look at it and placed it at the bottom of the pile - only to watch it weeks later when I was totally bored and willing to watch just about anything. That was a gross misjudgement on my part, and I apologize to the creators of 'Firehouse Dog' for having erroneously believed this to be just another sappy canine movie.

Rexxx, a.k.a. Dewey, is not your average canine - he is NOT loveable, nor is he particularly cute or even mildly appealing in, of course, a canine-sort-of-way. Dewey is actually obnoxious, and as far as first impressions go, he is more anti-hero than hero - but those are only first impressions. Although Dewey never becomes the 'loveable' sort of dog that can be found in your run-of-the-mill canine movie, he does tend to grow on a person.

This is not the type of boy-and-his-dog movie that is meant to draw sympathy and tears; there is no sappiness, no cutesy moments - only loads of laughter, and 111 minutes of unadulterated entertainment.

This is one movie you shouldn't pass up. It's fun, it's quirky, the kids will love it, and you'll save loads on tissues! No tears here - just loads of fun and laughter.
