Advantages: Naked Sandra Bullock Disadvantages: Over hyped nude scene

It looks very much like a made for TV movie with extremely low production values, poor plot, even poorer script (what little there is of it) and really poor characters - only the locations look any good. Basically ... ...find the story behind their story, and if they can spin out the human interest angle by actually meeting the people involved to find out the views on the ground.
The very bad love scene between Bullock and Sheffer does not help the film at all. It was agreed in advance by Bullock what could and couldn't be seen so don't expect to see anything remotely erotic, especially in the way of nudity from her.

Bullocks eventual fate is quite a surprise leaving the lesser known actor, Sheffer to tell the story of the plight of the burning and logging of the rainforest. Avoid it if you can, it's predictable and very stereotyped.
Advantages: Lots of stars in their hey-days, easy to follow plot Disadvantages: Drags in some places and these days, seems really scary!
1998 and it's also out on DVD.. Prices vary but you can get both from HMV, Virgin and Amazon.
The film is dedicated to real fire-fighters during the opening titles. It's a poignant note, but it also shows that without expert help, the film could not have been made. I recommend watching this if you really haven't seen it already. It's 175 minutes of human interest and adventure blended together with stunning results.
As with all movies, there was and still is a lot of hype surrounding this film. Did Steve McQueen really demand to have the same amount of lines as Paul Newman? Did they both really insist that they get equal billing on the promotional posters? Who knows? But the heated arguments that apparently happened only fanned the flames of publicity. ...
Advantages: Stunning to watch, Christian Bale, DRAGONS :-) Disadvantages: Poorly explained plot, confusing, downright DULL at times...
cinematography!
Then on the negative side, we have –
Large chunks of the plot unexplained.
Often complex, complicated and confusing due to these omissions.
Therefore, hard to believe and get swept up in.
Overall, disappointing – it could have been so much better.
And more importantly …
Not enough dragons!
Christian keeps his shirt on too much!
So, the good bits are excellent and the bad bits are almost unforgivable. But for any other dragon fans, you must watch this, if only to see those magnificent creatures appearing as real as they ever will.
Recommended – but with reservations.

A photojournalist (Sheffer, A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT) and an environmental activist (Bullock, SPEED) join forces in a risky murder investigation of a famous environmentalist deep in the hot and steamy Amazonian jungle. Made in 1993, Llosa (ANACONDA, SNIPER) captured Bullock on screen in this notoriously steamy role before her ascent to superstardom.
