Call me a big kid but this has to be my favourite film of all time. Finding Nemo has to be another masterful piece of family entertainment from Pixar, who created films such as A Bugs Life, Toy Story, Incredibles, etc.

Plot

Marlin, the clown fish from the great barrier reef has lost his son in the ocean. One day he is captured by divers and taken to Sydney, where Nemo is kept in a fish tank in the dentists room. Nemo's father Marlin searches the entire ocean for him and the story is all about Marlin finding his son and Nemo trying to escape from the fish tank.

About The Film

Finding Nemo consists of two stories in parallel, one is a quest and the other is an escape story. Both stories begin at home on the reef, where Marlin obsesses over Nemo, his only remaining family as a result of a predator killing his wife and all but one of their eggs. Nemo is sick of his father's over-protectiveness and ventures beyond the reefs "drop off" into open water. When Nemo does this he is taken by divers and finds himself in a tank in a dentist's surgery in Sydney. Whilst Nemo is there, he's befriended by the other residents of the tank, including Gill who is the leader of the tank community who's constantly planning escape plans. They other fish in the tank are a good bunch but Nemo is depressed and to make it worse for him he is due to become a pet to the dentist's sadistic "fish killer" niece, so the escape plans become more desperate. However, Marlin doesn't know this and has to race against time.

As Marlin's quest starts he meets Dory, a thoroughly forgetful blue tang fish. Whilst they are on their quest they find a mask that was dropped by one of the divers who have taken Nemo and the pair head for an address in Sydney. So the pair then meet three Aussie Sharks, who have a self-help collective where they get together to renew their vows, which is "Fish are friends, not food". Then they encounter a shoal that does impressions by forming the shapes of things, including poor, miserable Marlin himself, becoming an arrow to point them to the East Australian Current. Whilst travelling to the ECA a more dangerous situation arises when the pair find themselves in the thick of a mass of jellyfish, relief is then provided by a group of turtles riding the current. Finally, when Marlin and Dory reach Sydney they are helped by a pelican called Nigel who helps them get to Nemo.

Overall

Overall, I feel that Pixar has come up trumps again. The well cast film offers gorgeous visuals thanks to the underwater setting, an exciting adventure for kids, sly humour for adults and some interesting moral points to ponder. Overall I love this film and it's definitely one for the family it's ideal for young kids and big kids.
