Released in 2003 this fantastic animated film for the family, aimed generally at the children but every adult will enjoy the story of hope and love. It has everything that a great movie needs, it has action, suspense, thrills, comedy and much, much more, and all created in such a tasteful manner that even the youngest in the family will enjoy. It starts with the introduction of the characters under the sea. The main star, Marlin, (played by Albert Brooks) is your average clownfish who's about to become a father. But his heart is broken when the eggs are attacked and all but one survive, leaving Marlin to become an over protective father of his only son Nemo, (played by Alexander Gould) Then, years later, on Nemo's first day at school the movie begins properly with a unforeseen turn of events. Nemo is taken from his father and the movie is then all about the troubles Marlin encounters whilst trying to find and rescue his missing son. When Merlin literally bumps into a 'Blue Tang' named Dora, (played by Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful and frankly a little dippy sort of fish, the fun really starts. As the two fish search the sea for Nemo they encounter all sorts of distractions, there meeting with some vegetarian sharks is belly achingly funny. Meanwhile, as Marlin and Dora are searching we see Nemo being helped by his 'new' friends in a fish tank to try and return him to the sea before he is taken as a pet by the evil Darla, (played by LuLu Ebeling). With one of Nemo's new friends, called Gill, (played by William DaFoe) preparing an escape plan which could help things seem to be going well. The scenes swap from Nemo in the fish tank back to Marlin and Dory in the ocean and the comedy continues right through the movie. We see Marlin being helped by sea turtles on the East Australian Current, telling his story of his search for Nemo. The animated action becomes more dramatic as father and son become reunited and face almost certain death.
This movie, made for children, is for all the family and will have all your emotions on tender hooks, you'll laugh out load throughout, fill up with tears in parts, on the edbe of your seat in others. The animators do a fantastic job and create every detail possible to make this movie such good fun, with the voices matching the characters perfectly. It is a must for anyone that hasn't seen it. Even if you have seen it it's worth watching it over and over again.
