~ The Story~
This amazing tale begins in the stunning Australian Great Barrier Reef, were you find a little clownfish named Marlin and his girlfish Coral, starting up with a new home and a soon to be new family, but alas…disaster strikes and poor Marlin is left facing life alone…. until he discovers a lone survivor from his lost family….and names him Nemo.
Needless to say Marlins past experience has left him an over-protective paranoid father, especially as his son has "a little fin" but his bubble wrapped (get it!) son is about to start school! Nemos excitement to start school with Mr Ray and his new classmates is soon turned into anger and frustration as his dad soon interferes and tries to take Nemo home and out of school until he's older! But things go awry when Nemo rebels in front of his friends and is then caught by a diver.
Poor
Marlin, heartbroken and determined to find his son, he sets out on an adventure like no other where he will make a few unlikely friends, one of whom is Dory, a regal blue tang who is an optimist but a terrible memory! Dory tries to help Marlin and together it's not long before they run into trouble! With vegetarian sharks about to fall off the wagon, the abyss where an anglerfish lurks, clouds of jellyfish, a ride of a lifetime with a group of surfer dude turtles named Crush and his son (who is one of my favourite characters) Squirt, A whale which Dory has a seemingly unique conversation with. And quite a few rather hungry pelicans not to mention seagulls!
But as Marlin is on his journey, little does he know that Nemo has been caught by a dentist and is now in a tank in Sydney. Scared and alone (or so he thinks!) Nemo finds himself in a strange place with invisible walls, but he soon discovers 'The tank gang', a group of friends made up of a Moorish idol named Gill who bares a large scar and comes from the ocean himself, he soon takes Nemo under his wing, a watchful starfish named Peach, a Yellow tang named bubbles who…you guessed it- loves bubbles, a French cleaner shrimp named Jaques, Gurgle that is terrified of germs, Bloat, a Blowfish that literally blows up when emotional and Deb with her twin sister (that's actually her own reflection!)
Things are fine in the tank until Darla, the dentists niece appears and wants Nemo as her 'present', Darla is labelled a 'FISHKILLER!' so the tank gang need to get Nemo out, and fast. But before long their friend Nigel (a friendly pelican that comes to the window for a chats) has told the story of father and son and soon the whole ocean is telling the tale. Word gets back to Nigel that his dad is on his way to Sydney to find his son which gives Nemo the determination and courage to try and escape, but can he do it?
~My Thoughts~
This is the fifth Disney Pixar film released and is a thrilling tale with a heart warming story, which I'm glad to say has a happy ending- although I'm not too sure about the tank gang, I needed to see them get out of the bags! I love Pixar films - you are guaranteed something special every time, and this is definitely my favorite, the Pixar films are always perfectly polished and can't be faulted on the visual effects, the voices, music and storyline are all fantastic and there's really nothing bad to say about this movie! It seemed like a lifetime waiting for this film to be released after hearing about production, but it was well worth the wait!
The packaging is also fantastic, it comes in a duel-amaray case with an outer cardboard sleeve, which is reflective to make it look like reflecting water. The artwork is very nicely done, and inside the case is a list of the chapters in the film, really well presented. The film was dedicated to Glenn McQueen, a Pixar animator who tragicly died from melanoma in October 2002, seven months before the film was released. The film became the best selling DVD of all time, selling 28 million copies, and was only recently beaten by Shrek the third. A superb movie, that in my opinion has no flaws and everyone should see!
~Bonus features~
The first disc not only contains the film but also a filmmakers visual commentary including deleted scenes and recording sessions, a sneak peak at The Incredibles, and you can turn you TV into an aquarium with scenes from the film.
The second disc 'A voyage of family fun' is a real gem too, there's so much packed in which includes a special documentary 'Making Nemo' which features footage on the creation of the film. Exploring the reef with Jean Michel Cousteau, with some timely interruptions from your fave fishy friends.
Review the art of Nemo which is narrated by the artists themselves. You can also turn your TV into a virtual aquarium with never before seen animation, my kids love this- it's like being in the Reef (but without fear of death by stingers!)
There is also a short film from the Pixar Animation Studios named 'Knick Knack' about a little snowman longing to get out of his snow globe- which is lovely if not a tiny bit frustrating to watch!
Other features include a behind the scenes tour of Pixar Animation Studios. If you're a Robbie Williams fan (which I'm not- but still enjoyed) there's the animated music trailer for you.
And for the younger ones you can play a game of 'fisharades', have lots of learning fun with Mr Rays encyclopedia, or you can sit down for a fun story time. There's so much to see on this disc it's great to go back to over again to see if there's anything you've missed first time round.

The Film has been nominated for many awards, and has won an Academy Award for 'Best animated film.' Saturn Awards for 'Best animated film' and 'Best supporting actress.' And two Nickelodeons kids choice awards for 'Favorite movie' and 'Favorite voice' for Ellen Degeneres.
