Reality film-making seems to be the way that Hollywood is moving at the moment and this film is no exception.
Fifteen Minutes follows Oleg and Emil as they travel to America to collect the loot from a bank job that they got sent down for. Ever since watching "It's a Wonderful Life" when he was a child, Oleg has wanted to come to America and become a famous director like Frank Capra. So when he sees a video camera in a shop window, he has to have it, so he steals it and starts to film everything that he and Emil do in NYC, legal and illegal.
As you'd expect, the picking up of the koot doesn't go as planned, and Emil kills the guy he was going to get the money from. The duo escape and torch the place. And this is all within the first 20 minutes.
Brought in to crack the case are big shot "cop with the quote" Eddie Flemming (Bobby De Niro) and Arson Fire Marshall Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns). They don't get on at first, but soon bond, as you'd expect.
The crux of the main story revolves around the fact that Emil realises that if he and Oleg are tried and found to have been a bit doolally when they committed the murder they they would not be found guilty. They could then sell their story and be very rich. And because of America's Double Jeopardy laws they could not be tried again once they were found to not, in fact, be insane.
The film is partially shot with the POV of Oleg's cameraman (sorry, director), including the various "effects" that his camera is able to produce. This gives the film a far grittier quality than it otherwise would have. The direction is fantastic, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this film to anyone old enough to go and see it (it's an 18).
The only thing that I could really say against this film is that it seemed a bit long. Not hugely over long, but there really wasn't anything that could have been taken out to have shortened it. Anyway, in reality it wasn't that long anyway - it's only about 1 hour 50 minutes long.
When I went in to see this film, I wasn't expecting much. I'd read very bad reviews, I didn't like the poster campaign for it - I was just put off by the whole thing. In the end it was nipples' review, here on ciao that changed my mind. And I'm glad that she did. (Opinion updated to take into account that nipples is actually female!).

I originally went to the cinema to see The Gift but it was full and this was the next film
starting. It didn't really appeal to me because I had seen the trailer. I was really surprised
though. I really enjoyed it and would also recommend it to anyone. Angie

Whoops, I feel all embarrased now. Updated to take into account the correct gender! Thanks for telling me, Neil.

My wife will be very pleased that her review (NOTE she is a 'she', we've been married almost 25 years so I KNOW!)influenced you in going to see 15 minutes. WE enjoyed the film. But like you, I was not sure whether I'd like it, but was very pleasntly surprised. I'm sure she will forgive you. See you learn something new every day ! Good review.... Advantages: Intersting subject areas. Nudity and violence (if that is your thing). Reasonable acting performances Disadvantages: no subtlety, strange character developments. Weak script, unbelievable. Poor ending
Advantages: Action, Action, Action. Disadvantages: What if you want more from a movie than superficial action? Sadly this doesn't offer a great deal more.
