What really does start out as a blinding modern cop thriller ends up so far up it's own arse that you long for Frank Drebin to walk on set. Lets get a few things straight.. 1) The main charactes are well acted. 2) The first three quarters of the film very interesting and watchable 3) The ending is blown big style....
The set us is good, you watch most of the film thinking it's great then you get to a hashed ending. This film, from the moments after the criminals are caught is rubbish. Frasers insistance on putting the dectectives killing on the air is also the moment when the story runs out of steam. I don't know why - and I hope those of you that see it can tell me, but the last 10 or so mins of the film seam very, very poor.
I can't tell you what happens in case it spoils it for you, but the whole episode of one of the leads taking the killer away to a disused factory shold have, in my opinion been the ending. I think that they got to this point and thought - Oh Bugger we've still got ten mins to fill up... I know lets add this, and this to the end. a much better ending would have been for the main killer to be killed then and there in the factory and then Deep Space Nine Captin (prooving to be a highly enjoable big screen presence) should have traced down the killers acomplice to some sort of bloody shoot out...
The film is good, as most De Nero films are, go and see it, then write back to me and tell me if you agree with the end.
