15 Minutes is not your typical action film – it is not merely made up of tough-talking cops, rapid gunfire and big explosions. Unlike many action films it is totally unpredictable and with a twist in the tale you will be kept guessing on the final outcome of the film right until the end. The story is also remarkably clever and in many ways you could describe 15 Minutes as being a satire.
The Story ~~
Robert De Niro plays Eddie Flemming, a cigar smoking famous New York cop, “It’s all about the image” he brags taking a drag on his fat cigar and a swig of whiskey then walking over smiling to give a interview on the latest murder case to hit New York. Media-savvy Flemming is still a fairly likeable character, he’s tough on the bad guys and isn’t afraid to bend the rules, so despite his habits to spend too much time giving interviews and not enough time catching criminals he’s still the good guy of the film.
Emil Slovak played by Karel Roden and Oleg Razkul played by Olek Taktarov arrive in New York from Eastern Europe looking for a man who owes them money. After just making it through immigration at New York airport after several tense questions they soon discover that the money owed to them cannot be paid. Emil has a bloody encounter with the man who owes or should I say owed money to him. Oleg is an aspiring filmmaker and after stealing a video camera captures the bloody encounter on film. The problem though is not that Oleg would let the film get into the wrong hands but that Daphne Handlova (VERA FARMIGA), an illegal immigrant witnessed the bloody encounter.
Emil is the cleverer of the two, Emil just carries on with his life commits a murder here and there whilst Oleg films every single bit of it. I say Emil is the cleverer of the two, he knows that everything Oleg has filmed would be worth big bucks. Ruthless American television channels would pay millions for it; okay he would end up in jail. But with a bit of luck and an expensive lawyer he could get off as being declared insane by the authorities and then live his days out in a cosy little country home whilst Hollywood studios pay big bucks to him to make films of his crimes. Well that’s the idea but one thing stands in the way of Emil and Oleg’s evil little plan. Jordy Warsaw.
Jordy Warsaw is the opposite of the media-savvy Eddie Flemming; he’s an arson investigator who doesn’t know a thing about press relations. He tags along with Eddie for a while and they become a team and become very close to nailing Emil and Oleg. So close however that Emil and Oleg see them as a threat and the relationship of Jordy and Eddie changes, as does the status of their team.
Cast ~~
Robert De Niro pleases as expected and gives a polished performance and is very well suited to the character of homicide detective Eddie Flemming. Edward Burns is good as Jordy Warsaw and he adds depth to the cast of 15 Minutes. Fraiser star Kelsey Grammer has a fairly big part in 15 Minutes and his performance is excellent. In the past I had only seen Grammer in Fraiser and 15 Minutes is proof that he can play very different roles incredibly well. Grammer’s character in 15 Minutes is not so nice though – he stars as Robert Hawkins, he’s the man at the big American TV channel that would pay big bucks for a videotape of murders. Karel Roden and Oleg Razkul – are the bad guys, they give pretty bland performances but are well suited to the bad guy Eastern European role in 15 Minutes. In the film Karel Roden is a Czech and Oleg Razkul is a Russian in the film, though as far as most viewers are concerned they’re Russian.
The DVD ~~
I wouldn’t say its worth buying this on DVD or buying it on video in fact, I’d only say its worth renting but if you’re a real fan of the film there are some nice little goodies on the DVD version of this. Firstly you have commentary of the film by John Hertzfield, which is very informative and gives you an idea on how the film was made. There is also the usual deleted scenes and why they were taken out, though most of them should have been kept in the film in my opinion. The biggest attraction to the DVD version of this though is the two documentaries on the film. The first one is a discussion with TV hosts Jerry Springer, Sally Jesse Raphael, Maury Povich and Geraldo Rivera and they discuss aspects of tabloid journalism that are particularly relevant to the film. The other documentary on the DVD is “Does Crime really Pay?” and it studies real life cases that correspond with the film and includes discussions of the criminal mind. A music video and a trailer are also included on the DVD. I would say the features on the DVD of 15 Minutes are really good and if you rent this out rent the DVD out if you have a DVD player.
Overall ~~
Overall 15 Minutes is a pretty good film and well worth renting out, its nothing ground-breaking and is not particularly worthy of an Oscar but is merely a good film to pass a couple of hours on a boring evening.
Advantages: Intersting subject areas. Nudity and violence (if that is your thing). Reasonable acting performances Disadvantages: no subtlety, strange character developments. Weak script, unbelievable. Poor ending
Two eastern europeans, Emil (Karel Roden) and Oleg (Oleg Taktarov, who is an Ultimate Fighting Champion!), turn up in Manhattan after a stint in jail following a heist in which they got arrested, hoping to claim their share of the money. When it is not forthcoming things start to go wrong. Oleg, feeling he has it in him to be a top film director decides to film the whole torrid affair. Compounding our thugs’ problems is the fact that a beautiful ... ...decide to light a fire, which brings in arson specialist Jordy Warsaw, played by Edward Burns (‘Any Given Sunday’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, director of ‘She’s All That’), and celebrity homicide detective Eddy Flemming (Robert De Niro) to track them down.
The film is mostly taken from the perspective of the two criminals, and as the bodies mount up, and after watching a bit of daytime talk-shows, they decide ...

...film is no exception.
Fifteen Minutes follows Oleg and Emil as they travel to America to collect the loot from a bank job that they got sent down for. Ever since watching "It's a Wonderful Life" when he was a child, Oleg has wanted to come to America and become a famous director like Frank Capra. Brought in to crack the case are big shot "cop with the quote" Eddie Flemming (Bobby De Niro) and Arson Fire Marshall Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns). They don't get on at first, but soon bond, as you'd expect.
The crux of the main story revolves around the fact that Emil realises that ...

...remark about everyone having their fifteen minutes of fame sometime in their life. Sadly though for this film, the invigorating start gives way to a tabloid flameout that it tries to indict.

Advantages: interesting story, some good acting Disadvantages: can be a bit too silly at times
As you can see from the score above I thought this film was average, which is unusual for me because I'm the sort of person who either loves something or hates it, but now I'm going to have to try to justify myself with regards to why I thought this film was so average.
I've been receiving a lot of flak lately for just giving my opinions of films without saying much about the story of the film itself, mainly because when I read a review that’s ... ...the story, I just want to know whether I should go and see it. I find even knowing a small amount about the film can really detract from the enjoyment of it, and for that reason whenever I read a review I frequently just skip to the last paragraph to find out whether it is any good without having to find out about the story of the film itself. The films I enjoyed most the first time I saw them have been the ones I’ve known absolutely nothing ...

Advantages: some decent action Disadvantages: nothing new, doesn't convey message that well, muddled
When I was in New York last year a trailer for this film was shown on one of my movie visits and frankly it was one of the worst trailers I had ever seen. The fact that New Line kept chopping and changing the release date also didn't give positive signs for the film. Fast foward to a UK release and the reviews were less than complimentary. So thanks to a borow of my cousin's dvd copy I am now able to offer my own view. 15 Minutes takes it's title ... ...a New York cop Eddie Fleming who's a bit of a celebrity thanks to his high profile busts and that fact that he gets a tabloid TV journalist (Kelsey Grammer) to film his busts for broadcast. Meanwhile two shifty men from eastern european fly into the big apple to get some money that is owed to them from a job. things go wrong and soon murder is commited which leads to a fire in an apartment building. Enter arson investigator Jordy Warsaw (Ed Burns) ...

Advantages: Hilarious after several views. Reasonably good value for money. Disadvantages: Bit too short.
episodes, there is also an audio commentary, along with a never broadcast on TV pilot episode (albeit only half the length of a standard episode at just fifteenminutes). The DVD cover features a rather smug looking image of Partridge himself in his trademark tie and blazer. The DVD is also good value for money, at around a tenner for the complete series and bonus features. The only minor downfall is that there isn't enough for the avid Partridge fan, at just 7 episodes. However, it doesn't matter when or how often you watch these episodes, they will always remain funny.
My suggestion if you are a fan of all things comedic would be to grab this DVD without hesitation. ...
familiar with any of Rosemary Conley's work until now, so I wasn't too sure what to expect. She is quite different from any other fitness instructor on my fitness DVDs, not as outgoing. She didn't laugh at all, which is a little disappointing - I like harmless banter on the DVDs. As a person she is not an enjoyable fitness trainer, but I do like her routines so must credit her for that.
Coleen Nolan:
I adore Coleen Nolan. She's a fantastic singer and a wonderful TV Presenter, and now she's an amazing inspiration for anybody wanting to lose weight. Other than the fifteenminute interview at the end of the DVD, Coleen does not speak throughout. She talks on Disco Burn, which is nice, but with this she says not a word and that was a little disappointing, but not a reason to not try it. It is still great fun and she is still there doing the routine ...
Bradley Walsh born in Watford on 4th June 1960 is an English Comedian and Television actor. He is married to a choreographer named Donna and together they have a ten year old son , although Walsh does have a twenty six year old daughter from a previous relationship. You may remember him for his most famous role , which was playing Danny Baldwin in Coronation Street. He has also done a bit of Stand Up comedy ; one of his shows 'Bradley Walsh Live' is the one which I will be reviewing.
I was browsing the CD , DVD and Games website play.com looking for a DVD for my sister for Christmas , when I came across this DVD in the sale. I had liked Bradley Walsh as Danny Baldwin in Coronation Street and so decided to buy this for a small price of £2.99.
This DVD was released in 2004 and is suitable for people over the age of fifteen only ...

DVD Description
Set in a tabloid world of murder and mayhem, 15 MINUTES is a fast-paced, electrifying thriller that takes on modern America's tawdry fascination with crime. Arson investigator Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns) tags along with celebrity cop Eddie Flemming (Robert DeNiro) to investigate a double murder committed by a pair of Eastern European criminals, Emil and Oleg, who have come to America seeking money owed them by an old partner. As the crimes continue, the duo decide to escape prosecution by videotaping their crimes (Oleg dubs himself Frank Capra)--an act that seems so crazy that it would allow them to plead insanity. With this out as a safeguard, they then plan to make millions by selling their footage to a sleazy journalist (Kelsey Grammar). But as the brutality of the crimes intensifies, Eddie and Jordy are pushed to the limits of the law and beyond in their search for justice.<BR>Director John Herzfeld (2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY) uses lurid cinematography and extreme characters to make a scathing, yet boldly funny, point about guilt and responsibility in modern, media-obsessed America. Actor Karel Roden (Emil) is a leading Czech stage actor, while newcomer Oleg Taktarov (Oleg) is a former Ultimate Fighting Champion from Russia.
