model for all those who take themselves too seriously. A guy who knows the value of a day off.Ferris Bueller's day off chronicles the events in the day of a rather magical young man, Ferris (Matthew Broderick). One spring day, toward the end of his senior year, Ferris gives in to an overwhelming urge to cut school and head for downtown Chicago with his girl (Mia Sara) and his best friend (Alan Ruck), to see the sights, experience a day of freedom and show that with a little ingenuity, a bit of courage and a red Ferrari, life at 17 can be a joy.

effervescence over time. Sure, Matthew Broderick is still appealing as the perennial truant, Ferris, who takes one memorable day off from school. Jeffrey Jones is nasty and scheming as the principal who's out to catch him. Jennifer Grey is winning as Ferris' sister (who ends up making out in the police station with a prophetic vision of Charlie Sheen). But there's a definite sense that this film was of a particular time frame: the 80s. It's still fun, though. There's Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" during a Chicago parade, and a lovely sequence in the Art Institute. But don't get it and expect your kids to love it the way you did. Like it or not, it's yours alone. --Keith Simanton, Amazon.com

Advantages: very funny and good storyline Disadvantages: wish the film was longer
convince his parents that he is far too ill to go to school, using pre-recorded coughing and sneezing sounds to fool them and producing an enormously high reading when he takes his temperature, again a fraud. Once he has done this he hoes about planning how to spend his dayoff. He contacts his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck), who ironically is genuinely ill and can barely pull himself out of bed and somehow convinces him into taking his dads Ferrari out for the day - they think they will be able to wipe any miles they clock up during the day by returning home in the car in reverse gear, very odd! Then comes one of the funniest parts of the film, pretending to be his girlfriends father Ferris contacts Mr Edward Rooney and orders that Sloane (Ferris's girlfriend - Mia Sara) be released from school immediately due to a family problem. He arrives ...
Advantages: Great fun. A real 80s classic Disadvantages: None
It is the mid-eighties, and in a wealthy suburb of Chicago, high school senior FerrisBueller decides he wants to squeeze out one last dayoff school, knowing that if he gets caught he will not be allowed to graduate.
Ferris is not just any regular high school student. He is a clever, self-confident young man who has managed to achieve that most elusive of status - that of pan-popularity, being truly liked by every faction of his high school crowd - and who also has the ability to generally find a way to get what he wants.
He successfully dupes his parents into believing he is ill in order to stay at home, much to the frustration of his sister Jeanie who sees through his act.
Once home alone, he gets his best friend Cameron to snap out of his prostrated state of miserable hypocondria and join him in his plan to skip school ...
Advantages: Really good film, lots of decent extras Disadvantages: cheesy 80s soundtrack (for some that will be advantage!)
What a film. How does John Hughes manage to write such classic films (writer of planes, trains and automobiles, Uncle Buck etc). Legend has it that this was written in a measly six days though it would take a braver man than me to suggest how good it would have been if he had spent a week!
The film itself follows a more popular than god like figure in FerrisBueller (Matthew Broderick) who decides that the day is much too nice to go to school so decides to have the 'dayoff'. His parents whom thinks the sun shines out of his backside are conned into the illness story though his sister (Jenifer Grey of Dirty Dancing Fame) see's right through this.
I must admit when I read the story on the back of the DVD it didnt slap warning signs of 'classic' in my head but watching the film it shows all the true crudentials of a John Hughes ...
