Advantages: fills in an hour Disadvantages: it feels like a long hour

So you have a bunch of tree hugging fairies who live in the rain forest and would you of guessed that the bad humans are chopping it down. Girl fairy is being inquisitive and see's human man marking up the tree's to be chopped down, he is about to get squashed by a falling tee so she shrinks him bringing him into her home so he can see the errors of his ways. A horrible ... ...and together they must stop it. Tim Currie bad spirit and robin Williams as fruit bat that was experimented on by humans and is now nuts. Kids like it because it has fairies and songs on and they might learn something about the rain forest (not that any of the money goes to the replanting of the rain forests) then again maybe not... this is shown on satellite TV as well so may not be worth buying if you have this. Childrens films are hard to review ... more

Childrens films are hard to review as an adult buying them for a young child or an hour's peace, but i am letting you know from my point of view and the children i bought it for. The children loved this film, I did not like the parts when they were singing and though it has a moral and has a enviromentally friendly message it is a dvd to entertain for an hour. If you what them to learn about this stuff for real take the children to plant a tree or clean up a park or beach.

Review of Fern Gully - The Last Rainforest (Animated) (DVD)
Advantages: Positive message about saving rain forests Disadvantages: Scary monster may be intense for very young children
My two kids (between ages of 4 and 9) loved this animated movie and would watch it over and over. It has lively music, an appealing story line about a fairy rebelling against the status quo, but then learning the important lesson of protecting her home and loved ones. It has a lot of magic (duh, fairies), but the fruit bat (played by Robin Williams) provides one of the best manic Robin Williams comedy routines around. This may not be adivsable for ... ...evil character who comes very close to killing all the very likeable main characters. He is truly demonic in his characterization. Lots of loud, frightening scenes at the end which would definitely have frightened my son if he watched when he was 2 or 3. However, for kids between 5 and 10, I recommend this movie highly. My kids loved it and I think your kids would love it, too. ...
