Review of He Changed Our World - Steve Irwin Memorial Tribute DVD by  blackalleycat

Advantages: a lovely keepsake in memorium of a lovely man
Disadvantages: none, of course it is very sad

...I stayed up to watch this Memorial service on the telly on sept 20th, and was so moved to buy the dvd. This is a bitter sweet memorial to the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. In my opinion it is a very fitting tribute to Steve and the work he did for wildlife conservation. Of course, this has to be sad. The manner of Steve's passing and his larger than life personality will make it so. Steve had many fans, almost cerrtainly far more than he realised, and so has Terri, his wife , sadly now his widow. Their children , Bindi and Bob, and Steve's widowed father, Bob and his sisters, Joy and Mandy are all in attendance. an empty seat is next to Terri, well almost, steve's fav zoo Baseball cap sits there. The service itself is just the right length of time, there are many contributions from family and friends, famously from Bindi herself... Read review

Silent Hill The Movie
Review of Silent Hill DVD by  billibopz

Advantages: Captured the spirit of Silent Hill games well
Disadvantages: Not very scary, loose plot

...With weird goings on at home, Rose decides it is time to tackle her daughters problems and take her to the town of Silent Hill to try and uncover the meanings behind the happenings; but little do they know of the horror that actually awaits them there. After reaching the bleak and deserted town of Silent Hill, Rose loses contact with daughter Sharon and sets off in search of her, following what, to her, seems to be her only childs ghostly silhouette in the distance. Silent Hill is now a ghost town after underground coal fires drove most of its inhabitants out in the 1960s. The town is now run a-mock by intervals where certain darkness shrouds the streets and everything that lies within them. The darkness, almost like a force in itself, brings havoc to the otherwise unusually peaceful town, driving the remaining inhabitants to find... Read review

Dark, brutal, brilliant.
Review of Pan's Labyrinth DVD by  sonic0209

Advantages: Tense, beautiful, dark and brooding
Disadvantages: No let up in the tension - this is not for kids

...-old Ivana Baquero is superb as Ofelia, portraying innocence, fear and strength all at once and Sergei Lopez is stunningly horrific as Captain Vidal. The soundtrack, by Javier Navarrete, is eerily beautiful and quite in keeping with the melancholy tone of the film. The melody from the score is underlined through the film by a refrain from it being hummed as a lullaby by Mercedes to Ofelia. Navarrete has a long history of score writing for Spanish film and his work for Pan's Labyrinth was nominated for an Oscar. The soundtrack is available on CD and is the kind I can imagine enjoying away from the film, evoking the mood and memories of the film. ~~~Conclusion~~~ For me, one sure sign of a great film is that it has me gripped and Pan's Labyrinth certainly did this. Whilst the film is not what I would class as 'horror' (although I'm not a horror... Read review
