I met my partner and the father of my 2 year old six years ago. The one thing that drew us togehter and cemented our relationship was our love of htis film.
This film could not fail to win me over. I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp and Benicio DelToro and a massive fan of both Terry Gilliam and of course Hunter S Thompson.
Some have said you need to be on drugs to enjoy this film. I disagree. Drugs may give it a different slant but are certainly not a must. An open mind a sharp sense of humour and great attention to detail are all you really need.
The film follows Hunter Thompson on one of his first journalistic trips to cover a bike race. He and his lawyer (Oscar Z Acosta, also a published author) take the trip together indulging in many substances along the way. Their observations of the environment and situations they find themselves in is beautifully done and of course both men deliver their standard impecible performances.
It is surreal at some points and down right odd at other points, but then, for those of you who know anything of Hunter Thompson, he was very much surreal and odd. (Keep an eye open for his cameo appearance in the conference scene)
Watch this film and enjoy it. It truly is a one of a kind.

You haven't mentioned the second film at all. Maybe this would have been better listed under a "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" heading. Vic

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" in the top right of the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate. Also, you've only covered one of the two films.
