Firstly, a little background on the show for those not familiar with it. Family Guy is a cartoon, and is basically a cross between South Park and The Simpsons. It's not as dirty as the former but not as clean as the latter, and arguably funnier than them both. Now, the show centres around the Griffin family - Father Peter, Mother Lois, Daughter Meg, two sons Chris and Stewie and Brian, the family dog - from Quahog, Rhode Island.
Peter is quite slow at taking in information, and is pretty much a big kid (listen to his child-like laugh for proof). He's rather slow at taking in information, and horrible at defusing situations. He's most likely to be found drinking beer with his buddies Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire. Lois teaches the piano, when she finds time away from housework and looking after her baby Stewie, who seems to have developed a dangerous dislike for her. Meg, the eldest of the children, is the typical teenage girl and as such strives for acceptance from her peers. Chris (unfortunately) takes after his father, in that he's already shown himself to be rather dim and lacking of common sense. His biggest fear is the evil monkey living in his closet ("he wasn't always evil!"). Brian is a dog like no other - he can talk. He's Peter's best
friend and by far the most sane member of the family, although he has developed a penchant for alcohol.
Outside the family are other key characters such as the afore-mentioned Quagmire (sex addict with an attraction towards Lois), Cleveland (neighbour) and Joe (disabled and a Cop), as well as Adam West (Mayor) and Death (Death).
If you're a fan of the family Guy series then this DVD really becomes a 'must have'. I didn't find it as funny or as addictive as the previous 3 seasons, but it's still brilliant in it's own unique way. The DVD contains only 13 episodes which hit me as a disappointment, but there are more than enough laughs packed into them. The DVD extras aren't exactly brilliant, but there are deleted scenes and optional commentaries from the series creater and writers, which may be of interest to others. If you're easily offended then this definitely isn't for you, but as a generalistion, would make a good gift for most teenage boys. I'd recommend you watch the previous 3 seasons beforehand, but it isn't a necessity to fully enjoy it. It can be purchased from most shops selling DVDs from around £16.99.
