An overweight stupid father, an attractive wife, 3 kids and a dog.... a cartoon show about a dysfunctional american family no its not the Simpsons its Family Guy.
The show focuses on Peter Griffin a toy factory worker living in a small town Quahog in Americas smallest state Rhode Island. A stupid overwight production line worker at the local toy factory. Voiced by creater Seth McFarlane
He has an inexplicably attractive red head of a wife (just a cartoon i know), Lois the ying to Peters yang she puts up with all of his antics in great humour. Voiced by Alex Borstein.
Eldest child Meg, achingly unpopular though dreams of the day she is not. Voiced by Mila Kunis (That 70's Show)
Eldest son Chirs also fat stupid and awkward.... like father like son! voiced by Seth Green (Austin Powers, The Italian Job)
Baby Stewie, hell bent on world domination a little baby genius with an impressive array of gadgets and weaponary. Tries time and again to kill his mother Lois but to no avail!
Brian, the dog.....that talks, alcaholic but good at heart both Peter and Lois' best friend, aspiring actor and enemy of Stewie.
ok so now you have the basic overview of the family on to the DVD, it is a 3 disc box set which contains all 21 episodes of season 3. The series is in my opinion the best of the three wiht some genius story lines that do verge on the risque but always produce top quality humour and plenty of laugh out loud moments.
Now with this being a box set of 21 episodes I will not give you an overview of some of what i beleive are the best episodes of each disc, that way when you purchase the box set (which i do urge you to do if you like comedy that is funny and in the vein of The Simpsons and South park) you will appreciate all episodes equally. Plus keeing it shorter may keep your attention and avoid it being skimmed!
Disc One
Mr Griffin Goes to Washington. In this hilarious episode Peters toy compnay is bought by a large cigarette corporation intent on invreasing thier market by advertising to kids. Peter finds out about thier plans (with help from his family) and is promoted to president to keep him quiet. Will he do the right thing or sell out for the perks of a well paid job. A genius episode of what int a greatly original theme however the impied comedy of how easy it is to bribe american politicians is great viewing for the many Anti Americans out there!
Disc Two
To Live and Die in Dixie. Chris is inadvertantly involved in a robbery but manages to identify the criminal in a poice line up. However when Peter inadvertantly gives the criminal a picture of his son with a list of his worst fears and timetable on (terrible luck!) and he subsequently escapes from prison they have to be relocated to the South, redneck county! Again genius observational comedy of peoples perceptions of Americans leads to many laugh out loud moments. The send up of the Dukes of Hazard is a particularly funny moment!
Disc Three
Road To Europe. Brian and Stewie end up in Saudi Arabia, while trying to get to London so Stewie can go an live in his television fantasy land, how are a baby and dog going to get back home wih no money? and where is that button from? Plus Peter finds out Lois doesnt actually like the band Kiss....does this spell the end of their relationship?
All 21 episodes are pieces of comic genius, and due to the amazing sales of the series on DVD the family is going to return for a 4th series even though it had been cancelled by Fox in the past. You can watch the episodes again and agian and notice more comedy the more you watch with more layers comedy than a comedy onion! season 3 i the best of what is out there and at only £15.99 in HMV is well worth the price. Personally i would say that it is the greatest comedy i have ever seen and just like in South Park there is always a genuine message beneath the madness.
