Well if you want to find out an outline of what Family Guy is about, there's two things you can do. You can read one of the other informative reviews here or you can take my word for it that it's mostly about nothing. Yes, in a way it is a bit like the Simpsons insofar as Fox commissioned, it's a loosely drawn colour cartoon that makes you laugh at sarcasm, smut and political incorrectness. The difference with this and it is a key difference is that it's just downright sarcastic, smutty and politically incorrect. Whereas the Simpsons has jokes that appeal on two levels and thus make it all round family viewing, Family Guy really is aimed at those over 18, well 16. Maybe 12. Well, you know kids these days....Anyway.

I strongly recommend this cartoon for anyone above that age and possibly under 4 (they wont question the really politically incorrect things they do!) quite simply because it is pants down, laugh out loud, nitrous oxide funny. Fox cancelled the series after its third series because the American market just didn't quite get it. As you know, if they didn't get it, that probably makes it even funnier to us. Fart jokes, s3x jokes, anonymous racial slurs, gay jokes. Quite simply, nothing is sacred. That's not to say this is just low brow humour aimed at cutting minorities. Hell no. This is cutting edge comedy writing that merely uses animation as a transport for the sublime. It is true, if you like the Simpsons then this is definitely in your ball park. I would also say that if you like South Park you'd like this a bit too, but they're not the same ball park. They're not even in the same town. South Park is funny, but it IS low brow smut and fart jokes but there's no smart lines or clever sarcasm. It IS just fart jokes. Family Guy is just funny. And right now the box sets are a steal! Don't stop - order them now. They're a treat! Oh, and Stewie is crackingly funny - makes you look at you're own kid in a new light! And if you don't have kids you just want to have one - if only to see if they have an attitude like his!
