cartoon family even more animated than usual. As MacFarlane himself noted, he was inspired to go for broke, thinking that the series--already juggled like a hot potato in the US TV schedules (at one point, it aired opposite the mighty Friends)--had been cancelled. Just as This Is Spinal Tap walked the fine line between "clever and stupid", so Family Guy gleefully mocks the line between "edgy and offensive". Like The Simpsons, Family Guy lends itself to multiple viewings to catch each densely packed episode's way-inside "one-percenter" gags (so-called by the creators because that is the percentage of the audience who will get them), scattershot pop-culture references, surreal leaps and gratuitous pot shots at everyone from, predictably, Oprah, Kevin Costner and Bill Cosby to, unpredictably, Rita Rudner. Also like its Springfield counterpart, this series benefits from a great ensemble voice cast, with surprising contributions from a no-less-stellar roster of guest stars. --Donald Liebenson

three seasons, plus two bonus discs of additional material including commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes. Creator Seth MacFarlane drew on his own New England upbringing to create the dysfunctional Griffin family and the other less-than-endearing inhabitants of Quahog, Rhode Island. In addition to animating the original concept, MacFarlane also voices the show's three most indelible characters: recklessly stupid paterfamilias Peter Griffin, sophisticated pooch Brian and Stewie, the one-year-old obsessed with world domination. Though comparisons are inevitable, from the outset Family Guy established itself as no mere Simpsons clone. Quahog is both a more realistic and far less cuddly place than Springfield. The Griffins and their neighbours inhabit a town where both random acts of violence and virulent verbal abuse are doled out on a regular basis; they indulge in copious (albeit mild) swearing; and the mocking of minorities, PC attitudes and pretty much anyone and anything else, is delightfully commonplace. Most joyfully distinctive of all, though, are the flashbacks, surreal episodes and sundry other non sequiturs that continually interrupt the Griffins' daily lives. The show is also characterised by a plethora of pop-culture references, many of which will fall flat for a non-US audience. But the scattershot approach to jokes--they just keep coming and coming--ensures that for every one you don't get, there will be three that will have you in stitches. Rumours abound of a potential fourth season and even a movie; but for now this is the definitive collection. On the DVD: The Family Guy Collection presents the episodes on discs as they appeared in the original three box sets, with no extra features nor anything as useful as a "Play All" facility. Two bonus discs contain all the additional material: here 14 episodes have optional chatty, laid-back commentaries from MacFarlane and other members of the creative team. MacFarlane also appears in the short featurettes, talking about the show's creation and its interminable censorship problems. The rough-and-ready original pilot is also here, as well as animatic storyboards for selected scenes and seven TV promo spots. While the extra features alone are unlikely to tempt anyone who already has the series box sets, those who have only sampled Family Guy so far will not want to miss this opportunity to own every joyous episode. --Mark Walker
Advantages: comedy genius Disadvantages: no dvd extras
...show about a dysfunctional american family no its not the Simpsons its Family Guy.
The show focuses on Peter Griffin a toy factory worker living in a small town Quahog in Americas smallest state Rhode Island. A stupid overwight production line worker at the local toy factory. Voiced by creater Seth McFarlane
He has an inexplicably attractive red head of a wife (just a cartoon i know), Lois the ying to Peters yang she puts up with all of his antics ... ...the basic overview of the family on to the DVD, it is a 3 disc box set which contains all 21 episodes of season 3. The series is in my opinion the best of the three wiht some genius story lines that do verge on the risque but always produce top quality humour and plenty of laugh out loud moments.
Now with this being a box set of 21 episodes I will not give you an overview of some of what i beleive are the best episodes of each disc, that way when ...

My Family Guy Review ofFamily Guy - Series 3 - Complete (Box Set)by

Advantages: Three Discs Packed With 21 Episodes Disadvantages: No Extra Feature
...of my fave shows The Family Guy. I was only able to watch odd episodes and never the whole season. My chance on getting the whole season collection on DVD was when I was given a £50 HMV voucher recently in an award ceremony during the Leap festival (http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/leap) organized by my University. It was an award to honor the contributions of student ambassadors. I was quite disappointed as the grand prize was 12 tickets to The London Eye ... ...a picture of a cartoon family caught my eye. It was The Family Guy Season DVDS from season 1 to 3. Since it was on sale, it only cost £11.99 each season. It was a great deal indeed. Without hesitation, I grab the whole collection of Season 1,2 and 3. The Family Guy is a cartoon series made in the US and shown on Fox TV. It airs on Channel 4 here but is currently off season. It consists of a regular US family, The Griffins lead by a weird father Mr. ...

Advantages: 21 episodes. Good value for money Disadvantages: Some US jokes lost on UK audience
The Family Guy is a cartoon about an average dysfunctional US family and their talking dog. It has been the subject of controversy and censorship in the US and was dropped by Fox. In the pilot episode, Stewie, a talking baby with a British accent, was openly contemptuous of his loutish dad and already hatching a plan to kill his sweet-natured mother in a quest for world domination. Sounds weird right? But worth a look if only to see what the US censors ... ...to completely miss The Family Guy. In fact I’d never even heard of it until a mate offered to lend me the Season 3 DVD box set. I accepted coz I’m always on the look out for free entertainment, as the variety when I’m away at work is limited. I work on a survey vessel, currently in the Gulf of Mexico, so nipping down to Blockbuster ain’t an option.
The show itself is ruder and cruder than normal cartoons, hence the 15 certificate. Make no mistake, ...

Meet The Griffins Review ofFamily Guy - Series 3 - Complete (Box Set)by

Advantages: Very Funny Disadvantages: No Special Features
...TO THE GRIFFIN HOUSEHOLD
Family Guy - Now it's third fantastic season there are 21 brand new episodes across 3 DVD discs. If you have never seen the show before don't worry because if you have a husband, boyfriend or son aged 15+ they will love this. I'm not saying it's just for men because it's not women will love it to.
Each episode is around 25 minutes long and tells a story from the Griffin household. The family includes Peter, who 's like ... ...and kill his mother.
Family Guy comes in a lovely collectors box. Inside it there are three seperate DVD cases each with one disc inside. You must be at least 15 to watch the show because of some sex jokes but no swearing. The episodes are as follows.
Disc One -
The Thin White Line: Brian becomes a sniffer dog for the police but soon becomes a cocaine addict.
Mr Griffin Goes To Washington - Peters company is brought by a tobacco company. Peter ...

i'd describe family guy as the simpsons for an older audience. my friend showed me a few episodes and i thought it was ace and led to me buying the box sets.
meet the Griffins:
Peter Griffin - father of 3 children (meg, chris and stewie) husband of lois. fat, lazy, drinks and has a crap job never fails to make comments such "lois you're lucky, all the things you like doing - cooking and cleaning - are right here in the house waiting for you." and ... ...Brian - not just the family dog, easily the most polite/well mannered member of the Griffin family. well spoken and well educated, always the person peter turns to for advice.
there are so many hilarious episodes of family guy, my favourite is probably "kiss seen around the world" where meg and a geek from school who fances her kiss on television because meg thought she was going to die and stewie has his tricycle stolen by a bully.
family guy ...
