Family guy was a relatively short run, but totally hillarious cartoon which was taken off TV after only 3 series (for reason's unknown) and has developed cult status ever since. The best way I can describe it is to imagine the Simpsons after the watershed. Much after the watershed.
The central characters are the Griffin family. The head of the house is Peter , a stupid and childish father who says what Homer simpson only thinks. He is married to Lois, a model housewife with a slightly dodgy past (think Marge with a trace of Jodie Marsh thrown in). The oldest of their three children is Chris, who boils down to being stupid and fat, Meg, who is tragically ugly and desparate for popularity and Stewie, who despite being in nappies is bent on world domination. They also have the faithful family dog Brian who not only talks but in his own words 'likes the sauce'.
The series (released in 1999) also includes a range of secondary characters in the shape of the townsfolk who each entertain and disgust in their own way, with a wheelchair bound ex-cop, sex pervert neighbour and even the original batman (adam West) as mayor.
This all sounds pretty stereotypical but where the series first hits you is in shock value. sex, drugs and drinking are all colourfully addressed and mocked in childlike ways. Some of the jokes cruise too close to the knuckle and you may find yourself laughing in a 'I can't believe they said that' kind of way, rather than actually finding what they say witty (a possible reason for the cancellation). Family Guy is definatly alot less family friendly, and more targetting at a teens-early 20s audience.
The second series benefits from the popularity of the first because the characters, back stories and catchphrases are already established and so fans will probably enjoy this DVD more.
There are 15 episodes on the DVD, although it's the DVD itself that lets the whole package down. There isn't a 'play all' option and so you have to constantly keep selecting a different episode every half an hour, and the waiting screen between them in just a 5 second clip on repeat. There is also a total lack of extras. On the plus side, for fans this is an unedited version and so if you like the gleefully tasteless jokes, you get them in their uncensored form here.
Despite the way I've described this DVD it's only actually rated 15, due to comic sexual and drug references, and the odd moment of comic violence. I think they way these are presented with satire rather than in celebration makes them more acceptable.
Despite the series not showing on TV, there have also been several feature length offerings for fans and I read at Amazon that series 4 is to be released in April 2006, although I think this might have only been shown on the internet so far, rather than on TV.
I haven't quoted any of the jokes here because I don't want to offend anyone, or ruin any episode for fans. Just to re-itterate this won't be for everyone, but if childish, slightly rude simpsons/king of the hill style shows (albeit with the levels increased) are your thing you will love these series and soon be hosting 'sexy parties' of your own.
...reviewed the first season of Family Guy, I felt it was well overdue for me to attempt the second season, especially seeing as the much-anticipated fourth season is to be released in the UK soon (Yes, hopefully I'll write a third season review before then!!)

Peter: "Y2K? What are you selling, chicken or sex jelly?"
Peter (when he's hungover): This sucks worse than that time I went to that museum. (Flashback to childhood, standing in museum looking at dinosaur skeltons.)
Peter (as a child): Why did all the dinosaurs die out?
Man at Museum: Because you touch yourself at night.
Salesman: "My uncle, who's a real whizz with volcanoes says ...

Chris is the teenage son, whose I.Q is slightly lower than the normal carpet beetle. Struggling with puberty, he is being terrorised by a vicious chimp in his closet.

Advantages: Great laughs, more grown up than the simpsons Disadvantages: some jokes not accessible to Uk audience
Family Guy is a comedy based loosely around the Griffin family living in Quahog, Rhode Island.
This series of episodes sees no particular plot, path or lasting changes but all prove to be utterly hilarious with the right amount of sarcasm, crude jokes and slapstick mixed with some more subtle references.
The Characters in Family Guy are certainly not conventional. I will not go into too much detail about these as this review is mainly about the ... ...Peter Griffin is “the Family Guy” a guy who just can’t seem to get things right but is a good man at heart who loves his family but tends to look like an idiot in any possible situation
Lois Griffin is the mother of the family, who brings a bit of normalcy to the family, but this is not always possible and she tends to get dragged along with the rest of the mayhem
Meg Griffin is the eldest daughter of peter and Lois and is unpopular at school and ...

Advantages: Very funny, great cast of secondary characters Disadvantages: None
Family Guy - Season 2 is the second season of the multiple emmy award winning animated sitcom, Family Guy. I know there has been a lot of criticism of this show bearing more than a passing resemblance to another certain animated family. True, Peter Griffin is a fat unintelligent man with poor hygiene and an alcohol problem, which could be a description of Homer Simpson, but I see these shows as completely different with their own animation styles ... ...this is just a carbon copy rip-off, it's a completely different entity. As it's the second season, the animation has improved, so there are brighter colours and the animation is more clearly defined. This season also has the first appearance of Death, in the episode "Death Is a Bitch", which he is injured and Peter has to take over his work. He is voiced here by Norm MacDonald but after this episode he was voiced by Adam Carolla, which to me is a ...
