I have read reviews through my partners ciao account and so have decided to have a go myself. I have decided to tell you a bit more about Family Guy as it is one of my all time favourite cartoon shows
Fox Entertainment have bagged another classic cartoon along with the Simpson’s and Futurama they now have Family Guy on their books. Created by Seth MacFarlane this hilarious and subversive comedy will have you laughing out of your seat.
Family Guy is a cartoon designed for adults, hence being rated a 15, and does have some strong language in it so anyone allowing their kids to watch it should maybe watch it first though I believe many of the jokes would go over their heads. It’s funny in a close to the bone kind of way and some of the jokes will really get you cringing.
MEET THE FAMILY
Peter Griffin The Family Guy, Peter is forever upsetting his wife and children in attempt to be an all round good ‘Family Guy’ he is usually the butt of many of the jokes but is genuinely a big lovable oaf who can’t distinguish between his inner thoughts and his outer thoughts, thus usually voicing everything he thinks and getting himself in trouble doing so. He is supposedly the typical American Male, likes beer and TV and doesn’t know a lot about his kids. He kind of reminds me of Ricky Gervais’ character in the office.
Lois Griffin The daughter of a rich family Lois is a modern housewife with an opinion on everything. She runs the household, which is lucky, as it Peter was
left to his own devices everything would be chaos.
Meg Griffin The eldest of three children Meg is finding it hard to fit in at school and feel attractive. She is a typical, difficult teenager and any of us who has got teenagers or in fact has ever been one will be able to relate to her in some ways.
Chris Griffin Chris is an oversized 13 year old who loves food and isn’t exactly the brightest button in the box, he has a kind heart but is destined to turn out like his father.
Stewie Griffin By far the most intelligent child he is only a baby but with the voice and eyes of a mad scientist he hell bent on world domination and feels his parents, particularly his mother, are holding him back
Brian Griffin The family dog that talks and is probably more intelligent than the rest of the family put together, he is loyal to the family and has a very dry sense of humour.
THE SERIES Series 1 of Family Guy entails 14 episodes following events in the life of the Griffin family who live in Quahog, America.. The characters unfold before you and everyone I know has a favourite, mine is Stewie. The comedy is quite satirical in places and often mimics the American Culture. As it is the first series it introduces you to some of the other characters that play a part in the stories such as Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe, all Peter’s friends although Joe doesn’t appear until the 5th Episode he is a prominent character throughout the rest of the series’. Sometimes the comedy is cringe worthy but it’s also full of slap stick moments that will have you crying your eyes out with laughter if this is your kind of humour. If you allow your children to watch it some of the more intelligent jokes will not be understood by them but they will love it all the same as the comedy hits you on all levels, similar to other cartoons of it’s kind, like the Simpson’s but definitely more focused on an adult audience.
THE EPISODES
As I have already said there are 14 Episodes in this series, I won’t go into detail about them all but this is what they are entitled.
Death Has a Shadow-Story revolving around Peter drinking profusely at a batchelor party.
I Never Met the Dead Man- Peter teaches Meg how to drive but they crash into a satellite dish knocking out the city’s cable.
Mind Over Murder- Peter goes to watch Chris play football and punches a man, or is it a woman??
Chitty Chitty Death Bang- Stewie’s first birthday
A Hero Sits next door- The introduction of Joe, a wheelchair bound ex cop who moves in next door/
The Son Also Draws- Chris is kicked out of Scouts
Brian- Portrait of a Dog- Peter persuades Brian to enter a dog show, despite Brian being extremely proud and against anything like this.
Peter Peter Caviar Eater- The Griffin’s inherit a mansion from Lois’ rich Aunt
Running Mates- Lois is running unopposed for the school board when Peter decideds to go up against her.
Holy Crap- Peter’s Dad retires (forced) and comes to spend some time with them.
If I’m Dyin’ I’m Lyin’- Peter takes drastic measures to try and save his favourite TV show.
Love Thy Trophy- Quahog’s float wins a trophy and the neighbours have to decide who gets to keep it!!
Death is a Bitch- Lois discovers a lump in Peter’s breast
The King is Dead- Lois is to direct ‘The King and I’ as the new artistic director of Quahog Players theatre Group.
THE DVD I bought the DVD from play.com for £17.99- delivered and it still available at the same price. It comprises two disks which include all 14 episodes. A guide giving you a briefing of all the episodes (more in depth than I have given you) and the following special features:
Interactive Menu Scene Access
The total running time is 312 minutes so I didn’t think £17.99 is a bad price for hours of entertainment. It is only available to watch in English but does have subtitles for the hard of hearing.
CONCLUSION If you have caught the odd episode of Family Guy and found it hilarious then I would definitely recommend that you add this to your Christmas list, and the other 2 series’ for that matter. There will be no more family guy sadly but I think they’ve done well ending on a high. Most teenagers would love it but it depends on how liberal you are. I have these in pride and place on my DVD shelf and they’re ideal to watch to fill a gap between programmes when there is nothing on, though you may become addicted and just sit and gouge out on Family Guy forgetting that ‘that film you have wanted see for ages started an hour ago…’.
Definitely an all round good product though it would be good if the DVD had some extra features to offer like interviews with the family etc.
P.S> Through researching this I have found out that Fox have now released a full box set containing all 50 episodes of Family Guy which is available to buy for £49.00 on Amazon. It has loads of Special Features not available when you buy the series’ separately. I wish I’d known they were going to release this, I’ve just bought all mine separately!!
