Harry Potter And The Philosooher's Stone DVD
Review of Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone DVD by
frankie_loved
Advantages: Great film can watch it over an over again and not get bored
Disadvantages: square eyes from watching to many times
This was a great film and it starts the trilogy off extremly well, it just jumps in with excitment, fun and really tells you that there is a lot more in store for the veiwers in the next films even if you have not read the books you still get the nearly all the information and the things that are missed are not tha important and you can still really understand the film. It is a wonderful storyline and the author J K Rowling is a great writer and ... ...the most well known author in the world. All the characters really fit there set parts and makes the film that much more enjoyable to watch and you really just watch and grow with them. This is definetly a fab film to watch with young children and just a wonderful family film. I have watched this film atleast 25 times and i still love it and i will probebly watch it again in a few nights time, it is just one of those films you can never get bored ...

Nanny McPhee - she's who you need
Review of Nanny McPhee DVD by
jennyf16
Advantages: great for the whole family
Disadvantages: may be a little scary for the youngest ones
OK, so I'm nearly 23 but I've wanted to see this film since I saw it advertised when it was at the cinema. Not being able ton convince anyone that they too want to watch it I decided to watch it once lonely Saturday night.
I had visioned a bit of a twist on Mary Poppins but this wasn't to be. I do not want to give away the plot.
The film is aimed at children however I did enjoy it! It did have it's twists and turns and so the plot wasn't entirely ... ...of the film is but I wouldn't recommend letting young children watch it alone, anything about 8 or 10 will probably be fine on their own.
This film had some great acting from Colin Firth but inparticular from Simon, the young boy. I'm sure I've seen him in something before but can't quite place what. Children will find the film funny and perhaps scary in parts but it's a non stop film with no scenes there just to fill.
Great family film for a rainy ...

Shhh it's a secret!
Review of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets DVD by
Suzela
Advantages: better than the first film and enjoyable
Disadvantages: it could have been much better
...up to the release of Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix DVD next month I have decided to review the previous films in the series. So this is number two in my series of reviews - Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (2002).
As I sat waiting for the second instalment of the Harry Potter film franchise to start, I kept thinking "Please be better than the first film" (I have a feeling my husband was thinking this too!). Yes I had enjoyed the ... ...In this film we see Harry and his friends return to Hogwarts for their second year where another plot is brewing to bring the evil lord Voldemort back to his former power. But this plot not only endangers Harry but all the pupils at Hogwarts. However on this occasion my apprehension was slightly less justified as I shall explain.
From the very opening of the film you know this film is going down a darker path. The familiar orchestrated theme returns ...

Winnie the Pooh - Heffalump Movie
Review of Winnie The Pooh - Pooh's Heffalump Movie (Animated) by
magicalglitter
Advantages: Great morals
Disadvantages: Somewhat predicatable (but this is of course not a worry for children)
...just like in all the Winnie the Pooh films, and they guarantee at least a smile if not a great laugh. The story line is not too obvious for children. It is nice to see Roo (and a little bit of Piglet) as a focus in this film as he isn't normaly much of starring role in the Pooh films; so it is good for those who have Piglet down as their favourite character :)
Extras: A great little hide and seek game to play, backstage feature, recipe
Subtitles: ...

The whole world's a garden
Review of The Secret Garden (Wide Screen) by
sunmeilan
Advantages: Faithful adaptation of a classic novel, beautifully filmed
Disadvantages: The upper and lower class divide
...is sent from India to the wilds of England to live in a stately home owned by her Uncle. Her Uncle, however, does not seem keen to have much to do with her, having recently lost his wife, so Mary is left to entertain herself, with only servant Martha and miserable housekeeper Mrs Medlock to talk to. Bored, she soon finds something to occupy her - the existence of a walled garden that has become sadly overgrown following the death of her Aunt. With ... ...For anyone who doesn't know, The Secret Garden was originally a children's book written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and first published in 1909. However, it has remained a children's favourite until today, and it certainly had a welcome place on my bookshelf as a child. I have seen adaptations of it over the years, particularly a TV series made back in the seventies, but have never felt that they captured the essence and charm of the original book. ...
