Racing Stripes a winner
Advantages: Very high on the 'aww' factor Disadvantages: Very predictable
This is not the type of film I would normally watch, but my ex's little sister loves this genre. We first saw the film on T.V. and fell in love with it, it's high on the cute factor, and is very girly, though there are enough funny scenes and clever bits (as my seven year old put it)€ to make it suitable for boys too. There are a few memorable lines and a lot of enjoyable scences. The storyline is very predictable, as I find in so many films for ... ...a smart script. Some big names voice the characters, Snoop Dog doing a fantastic if obvious dog, and Whoopi Goldberg appearing as a goat of all things. Overall, this is a film for kids, but it's a nice change from the typical cartoons and the newer Japanese animation. A hit ...

This is BAD
Advantages: None Disadvantages: It's crap
The 1950's and 1960's saw Walt Disney breaking new ground by merging animation and live action into a single amalgamation if not seamlessly then at least convincingly. It was a revolutionary move that tickled the imagination and gave rise to all sorts of possibilities.
For many years, such mingling and meshing went on, but really came to the fore in feature films with the extraordinary Who Framed Roger Rabbit? featuring Bob Hoskins and an unbelievably ... ...fair amount of flair, and the cartoon sensibilities of its makers meant that almost exactly the right balance was struck. It was a rip roaring success and enormously enjoyable.
However, as good as Roger Rabbit was, when they decided to repeat the trick with the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie in 2000, the flaws were there for all to see and this film is almost unwatchable, even given the presence of Robert De Niro and his half assed parody of the "Are ...

Hooked on Hoodwinked
Advantages: All round fun family film Disadvantages: depends on your point of view...
Hoodwinked is one of our favourite family films here and is watched over and over again as it tells the same story from the points of view of different well known fairy tale characters. Then they twist it all into different plotlines and make the bad guys into good guys and Granny is, well, I'll leave you to watch and find out what Granny is!! In the end the bad guy/villain isn't exactly unexpected but there are so many twists and turns and sidesteps ...

A Bland Apart
Advantages: Great to see others lives are dull too Disadvantages: Thinks its far cleverer than it is
Despite the multi-contrasting reviews of both professional and consumer sites on the movie The Invisible, it took the word of cult author Kim Newman to make me finally pick up the DVD that had been collecting dust for several months on my shelf and see for myself what the movie was all about.
Nick Powell (Justin Chatwick) is the good kid in class, good grades, loads of friends; but something inside of him occasionally makes him snap. When his best ... ...he decides to try and get to the bottom of this troubled individual. All Nick's attempts however fail, and he gives up his mission. But unaware to him Annie's bullying on his friend is happening again after she finds herself arrested for various offences (most notably drug related); in the heat of the moment and knowing that Nick is about to depart for London, his friend sites Nick as the source of the police information. During a late night walk ...

The time has come for santa to decide who is going to take over the reins of the big sleigh, buts its becoming clear to him that the triplets are more interested in monkeying around than the family business!
