Advantages: fun family film
Disadvantages: tips for children to be naughty

...fun sunday afternoon!! Nanny Mcphee is a modern day Mary Poppins with a slight twist. The film starts off with Mr Cedric brown (Colin Firth) telling you about the story that is to come with the picture showing a pink chair, which his late wife used to sit in. Mr Brown has seven children who are very naughty to say the least and have already just seen off the 17th nanny and when he goes to try and get another nanny to work for him the door is closed ...
..."the person you need is Nanny Mcphee" but is then told she is not on their books. That night the children go wild at home and tie the cook to the kitchen table as they get up to no good, the whole household is in turmoil as a black figure appears at the door which turns out to be Nanny Mcphee (Emma Thompson)she has a long black dress on and holds a crooked walking stick which in time proves to be magic, her face is quite ugly as she has one large ...

Tell me, butterfly, have you seen the other unicorns?

Advantages: Extraordinarily faithful adaptation, well voiced, charming story
Disadvantages: Gratuitous songage

This is a review of the film only. The DVD is available as a region 2 from Amazon from £3.98. It is easy to forget, in the computer age that is 2009, that animated films were once all hand drawn; each cell painstakingly illustrated; backgrounds pencilled and inked, the artists’ hands shaping the final product. A Ralph Bakshi film is immediately recognisable as coming from his studio, and instantly distinguishable from an offering from the Disney ...
...the late 20th Century may seem primitive, lacking the 3D rendering of today’s computer generated products, and also lacking the consistency of style that most modern animated popular cinematic films seem to have. The Last Unicorn dates from 1982, and comes from the pen of Peter S Beagle, adapted by Mr Beagle from his novel of the same name, and the directorship of Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. It follows the story of the eponymous Last Unicorn ...

A magical, enchanting story

Advantages: Classic tale which has a good message.
Disadvantages: Like several other movies, not as good as the first one.

This tale starts off like many others with setting the scene, yet in a very confusing way. It is not clear of the time line as it does not directly follow on from the first movie. Despite the opening flaw it does offer some entertainment and with an original cast from the first movie, the music, along with many other Disney classics, is wonderful and charming and will capture the imagination of many generations. The basic plot sees to be that during ...
...the Christmas before; thus launching into a long tale in which the characters plan, sing, destroy, and save Christmas! The villain of the piece is perhaps more terrible than the previous, jealous character of Gaston. He comes in the form of Forte. Forte was the musician in the castle and when the spell was placed on the castle, he was turned into a pipe organ. He now feels useful because his gloomy music seems to be the only thing that makes the ...

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Advantages: Characters, Plot, Special Effects, etc
Disadvantages: None really

Bedknobs and broomsticks is for me, a classic Disney film, although its not one of the most popular with the public, it definitely is for me! I don't actually own the DVD, but I've seen it so many times on the TV, I know it really well by now and definitely well enough to do a review on it. The plot is original, unlike many Disney films taking their plots from old fairytales (Cinderella, etc.) it is also unique because it is a mixture of animation ...
...under the sea or when they meet some cartoon animals. This was very good for the time as it was released over thirty five years ago, in 1971. You can tell the film is British as it starts off with some history, and you get a real feeling of the war and what was happening at the war. In a little village somewhere in Dorset, there is a witch called Eglantine Price (played by Angela Lansbury) who somehow believes that her learning to be a witch will ...

Modern Day Mary Poppins?

Advantages: great family film
Disadvantages: probably only watch once

OK, so I'm nearly 23 but I've wanted to see this film since I saw it advertised when it was at the cinema. Not being able ton convince anyone that they too want to watch it I decided to watch it once lonely Saturday night. I had visioned a bit of a twist on Mary Poppins but this wasn't to be. I do not want to give away the plot. The film is aimed at children however I did enjoy it! It did have it's twists and turns and so the plot wasn't entirely ...
...of the film is but I wouldn't recommend letting young children watch it alone, anything about 8 or 10 will probably be fine on their own. This film had some great acting from Colin Firth but inparticular from Simon, the young boy. I'm sure I've seen him in something before but can't quite place what. Children will find the film funny and perhaps scary in parts but it's a non stop film with no scenes there just to fill. Great family film for a rainy ...
