A great adaptation.

...that Pratchett magic. The Hogfather first came out as a two part drama, (each part approximately one and a half hours long), on Sky One over the Christmas period of 2006. I watched it with glee, seeing the magical story come to life before my eyes; finally something to do justice to the great Terry Pratchett who is arguably the best comic-fantasy author of all time. The story of the Hogfather is all the about the magical Discworld holiday, Hogswatch. ...
...Tee-Er-Tar-May), wants to “kill” the Hogfather and other anthropomorphic personifications of human belief, (think the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy etc), by making people not believe. Little does Teatime know that greater powers than he want the same thing. Neither of them count on an unlikely hero saving the day! As I said this “film” was commissioned by Sky One and they certainly threw plenty of money at it. The sets are magnificent depicting the Discworld, ...

Twas the night before Hogswatch.....

Advantages: A very entertaining and funny programme.
Disadvantages: May not appeal to everybody as it is Fantasy/Discworld.

...set out to rescue the Hogfather and ensure that the Sun will return. I do hope that I have not given too much away. Those who have already read the book or watched the original Sky One production will know the story. A screen play is not the same as a stage play or the book upon which it may have been based. So this production does not follow the book word for word. Not every character from the book is present and some are not as prominent. Anybody ...

Sweet Dreams from the BFG!

Advantages: good animation based on a children's classic!
Disadvantages: none

THe BFG is an excellent animated film made in 1990 and based on the wonderful story by Roald Dahl.. It tells the story of a little orphan girl called Sophie, who looking out of her bedroom window one night, spots a giant. He realises that he has been spotted and before she knows it she is scooped up in his hand and taken away to Giant Land. She is, unsurprisingly, very frightened, until he explains that: 'I is not like all the others. I is a nice ...
...are nowhere as nice as the BFG though. They go by the names of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumper and Butcher Boy, to name a few, and they are nasty hideous creatures who go round eating 'human beans'. The BFG only eats snozzcumbers which taste disgusting. The BFG spends his days catching lovely dreams for boys and girls, and each night he goes and blows them into their bedrooms. When, they realsie that the other giants have a nasty scheme to eat up lots ...

Worzel Gummidge Series 1

Advantages: Nostalgic memories aplenty and a great series for the next generation
Disadvantages: Poorer quality produced on DVD and taken directly of origional film.

Worzel Gummidge is the somewhat scary scarecrow that came to our TV screens during 1979 and 1984. I was asked by a colleague to give a little talk on a popular TV programme for children from my youth and Worzel Gummidge came to mind. In an effort to remember the series I decided to purchase the complete 4 series' and even the fifth and sixth series based down under in New Zealand called Worzel Gummidge Down Under. The series has now become a firm ...
...small moral undertone. Worzel Gummidge is a childrens character from the books of Barbara Euphen Todd and after a number of years in print it was then played as a childrens show on British radio in 1947. The television adaption was decided by Southern TV in late 1970's and with the clever writting talents of Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, Worzel Gummidge was born in glorious colour. Worzel Gummidge the hapless scarecrow that had a number of heads ...

Good old Mr Toad!

Advantages: funny, appeals to all ages, good actors
Disadvantages: you will likely already know the plot

This is the latest version on dvd of the Wind in the Willows which was released out on dvd 26/03/2007. I found this version of the classic tale to be the greatest version yet and i think Matt Lucas from little Britain play a quality character as good old Mr Toad. This dvd will appeal to children and adults alike, definately a must see film. The film is set in the english countryside with lovely picturesque views, the dialogue of the characters and ...
...your little rowing boat across the river. costumes - very detailed, although i doubt anyone would want to wear the simple clothes of Mole or Badger, the lovely suits worn by Mr Toad, Rat and the weasels are simply divine. soundtrack - very upbeat and jolly music when all is well and good but things turn sinister when theres a weasel around. story - The weasels have bought a field from Mr Toad leaving poor Mole (lee ingleby) without a place to call ...
