A Classic Ballet performed by Barbie
Advantages: A little girl's dream. Brings Classical Ballet to young children. Disadvantages: Not of very much interest to boys.
...old grand daughter loves her Barbie dolls and she loves dancing. So what better present to buy her for her birthday than this DVD, Barbie in the Nutcracker.
She loves it and has watched it over and over again.
The film starts with Barbie and Shelly practising the Nutcracker Suite. Shelly like all children begins to get frustrated and cross so Barbie tells her the story behind the dance, Clara and the Nutcracker.
The film moves to a Victorian Christmas ... ...other characters look like a Barbie doll. The dancing is very lifelike. It is based on a ballet company performing the dances so is very accurate to the ballet. . The music is performed by The London Symphony Orchestra and is quite marvellous.
The packaging reflects the story with the case and the DVD in pink with a picture of Barbie as Clara. The DVD cost me £14.99. Money well spent as my daughter has got so much pleasure from it. ...

The first Pokémon movie
Advantages: Well animated and illustrated Disadvantages: Final battle is too long and takes-up too much of the mo
...the incredible success of the Pokemon animated series, leading to a global influx in the sale of Pokemon merchandise, it was only a matter of time until a movie was released. Simply named “Pokemon: The First Movie” the popularity of the franchise made for an expected huge box office hit all over the world. Before the actual film started you are treated to a mini-film, “Pikachu’s Vacation” is where Pikachu and the rest of the gangs Pokemon get treated ... ...of a very rare, unique Pokemon was used to clone and improve a whole new Pokemon all together. Unfortunately this is where there is some confusion as to there overall story of the movie, as in the English versions where is a huge chunk of the plot is cut-out, this absent part being an important part as well as strengthening the story, defining some of the key motives behind the characters aggressions and actions which where removed due to the adult-themed ...

I'm only Borrowing it!
Advantages: Short Episode format Disadvantages: Only 2 series were made
...with early 90's BBC series The Borrowers. Adapted from the novels by Mary Norton (which I haven't read) The Borrowers was made into a 6 part series for children and was originally screened in 1992.
The Borrowers are basically little people (around 6 inches high) who like to borrow things from human 'beans' to use in their own homes. The Borrowers stars Ian Holm (most recently as Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings) as Pod Clock, the father, Penelope ... ...the mother and Rebecca Callard as Arrietty Clock, the daughter and follows them through the trials and tribulations of being the only ones of their kind left in the house, having relatives who'd been seen and had had to leave the house. Being seen themselves and actually finding out that some human beings were not too bad after all.
Holm gives us a lovely performance as Pod, he is the one that has to provide both food and accessories for all of ...

The Muppet Show. The Opening number
Advantages: interesting to see how the show developed, the pilot episode Disadvantages: not the best series for a casual fan to buy, Muppet morsels can be annotying, no listing of episodes
...about my favourite TV show The Muppets again. Disney (unfortunately) have bought out my beloved fuzzy puppets and to make their money's worth they have started to release box sets of the Muppet seasons. My old video box set ;s quality was starting to deteriorate due to overuse so I thought I would treat myself to Season One of the Muppet Show on DVFD when I saw it in the Amazon sale or a fantastic £17.99. The box set contains four DVDs and a whopping ... ...the Muppet Show ran for 24 episodes and was first shown in 1976 and 1977.
The Muppet Show was a take on the variety shows that used to be on TV such as Sunday Night at the Palladium.. It was made up of different songs and sketches performed by acts such as the Electric Mayhem Band, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear. These were held together by the capable flippers of Kermit the Frog. I am not usually one for going into detail about the packaging but there ...
