Two christmasy classics

Advantages: Two great christmas films on one DVD, classic family films
Disadvantages: Grumpy Father Christmas may put some off, no extras on the DVD

The Snowman was originally a childrens book written by Raymond Briggs. The Snowman was written in 1978 and was turned into a 26 minute long animated film in 1982. The Snowman is introduced by David Bowie, who claims to be the boy from the story (and has the scarf to prove it). The story of The Snowman starts on a snowy, winters morning - all the houses, fields and trees are covered in thick snow. A young boy (James) wakes up in his bed, sees the ...

He eventually gets in his bed and falls asleep, but shortly before midnight the boy wakes up and goes downstairs to have another glimse at his snowman. Labyrinth- one of the most enchanting children's films ever made?

Advantages: Fun, imaginative family-friendly film, enchanting storyline, charming characters.
Disadvantages: Slighty gimmicky in places, stereotypically '80s'.

Jim Henson, as most of us know, is chiefly recognised for his puppetry and crazy protagnonists. His films are mainstream and child- friendly, and this fits nicely into that category. However, just because this is a mainstream production, doesn't mean to say it lacks charisma and charm, and it doesn't have a consistent yet surprising storyline. Sarah, played by Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind), is a young woman with a big ...
...baby brother Toby (Toby Froud) would be taken away by goblins... and her wish is granted. The ringleader of the goblin cult is Jareth, played by glam rock legend David Bowie, which contributes an outstandingly colloquial yet gripping performance. Connelly, as always, is on top form here, representing her character naturally and effortlessly. This film is aimed at children, but there are a lot of elements that an older audience can identify with- ...

Labyrinth - David Bowie and Sarah Connelly - Loved it

Advantages: Very watchable with an strong feel good factor. All turns out right in the end
Disadvantages: None

I have owned this product on video for a number of years and love it. It awakens the imagination, has characters you can relate to and an excellent soundtrack. Although not a true David Bowie fan, he is at his best here as the Goblin King. Sarah is a teenager whose mother has died and her father has remarried to a step-mother she resents although the step-mother is not of the usual "wicked" variety, and Sarah now has a young baby brother - Toby. ...
...has inherited from her late mother and her resentment grows when she is left at home to watch the baby when her father and step-mother go for an evening out. It is a dark stormy night and the baby will not stop crying. Sarah wishes the goblins would come and take the child away and guess what.... The rest of the film is taken up with her journey to rescue the child and is an excellent mix of comedy and fantasy with some excellent lines from the ...

Magical (Labyrinth)

Labyrinth DVD INTRODUCTION Labyrinth was first released in 1986. It is a fantasy film directed by Jim Henson (creator of The Muppets) and produced by George Lucas (creator of Star Wars). The lead characters in this film are played by David Bowie, a well known singer, and Jennifer Connelly who was not well known for her acting. This film turned Jennifer into a star. Fortunately, the Goblin King has fallen in love with the girl and given her special powers. The girl just has to say the right words and the Goblin King will come and take away the baby. After this story Toby carries on crying and Sarah leaves him but suddenly everything goes quiet. The ...
