The First Harry Potter Film Advantages: Wonderful story, great actors, Disadvantages: misses a few bits ...instant rapport and passion for Harry and friends to get one over on the awful Malfoy. I liked the effects used and the costumes, everything in the film really sets the atmosphere. The dim lighting as they await the sorting ceremony, the cosy Gryffindor common room, that just feels like home. It has all been done brilliantly. The only thing, as with any book to film transistion, is that some characters and bits are left out. So if you haven't already, ... ...still a wonderful film and it is just lovely to loose yourself in it. I also loved the soundtrack, it just sounds magical. The DVD itself comes with some little games for children, like the wall scence in Diagon Alley where they try to open it. Should have stuck to the books! Advantages: Wonderful plot for an amazing series Disadvantages: Strayed too much from the books ...just do not exist with Harry Potter and Hermione. Even though the people who made this movie should have stuck more to the books, the movie it's self is magical and enthralling and it keeps your attention. It is very nice to see the magic come alive on the big screen, no matter how distorted the story line becomes! ... When I saw the line up Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson and even old timers Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney, I just knew that this was a film I wanted to watch. Good, not great Advantages: It's tthe Simpsons! Disadvantages: It's a bit too long and convoluted at times The Simpsons series are brilliant. Witty, cleverly written satire that sometimes cuts very deep. The Simpsons movie tries to travel the same route but gets a little derailed. The idea (global environmental armaggeddon) is clever and ripe for plucking but somehow it falls a little bit flat. Strangely, the animation is almost too good for me - it's just not as two dimensional and YELLOW as I like my Simpsons. Parts of the plot are almost Southpark ...
