Riveting Robots?
Advantages: Fun film with a strong voice cast and good animation Disadvantages: In the face of stronge competition, it doesn't quite match up
...meets an eclectic bunch of robots who show him how to survive metropolitan life. Rodney's skills are soon necessary as the evil robot, Ratchet, who is now running Bigweld threatens the survival of his new friends and potentially that of his aging parents. SO SHOULD I SEE IT? "Robots" is a great little film. I cannot honestly rate it as highly as some of my animated favourites such as Shrek, Ice Age, Kung Fu Panda or really any of the Pixars. However, ... ...the old, nuts and bolts robots with the shiny futuristic robots keeps your interest. It also goes to show that you can't judge a robot by its upgrades as the line between goodie and baddie cannot be drawn based on the appearance of a robot. The humour in the film is fairly traditional Robin Williams though with some moments of Mel Brooks (yes, that's one of the voices to look for). It is family friendly, but with the odd reference thrown in to delight ...

Santa's a thug
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Enough to put you off Christmas for life
...Christmas spirit, so we rented Miracle on 34th Street, a Christmas film that I’d never actually got round to watching before, but had heard lots of good things about. Synopsis Cole’s department store is in trouble, it has just warded off one attempted buy out, but the claws are out from their opposition, and they’re determined to do whatever they can to own that shop. At the same time as the news of the failed buy out hits the papers, Dorey ... ...for Doris, her Santa is a drunk and as far from the image of Santa as you could get. But as luck would have it, an old man who goes by the name of Kriss Kringle just happens to be passing, and bare and uncanny resemblance to Santa, Doris randomly approaches him in the middle of the park as he’s leaving the parade area, and offers him the job, which he accepts. Kriss makes a good impression at the store, and on Dorey’s daughter Sarah, although Doris ...

Third Best 'A Christmas Carol' film
Advantages: Looks very Christmassy, Well Directed Disadvantages: The people look creepy
...for those who live in a hole or have dementia, A Christmas Carol is the story of Ebonezer Scrooge (Jim Carey) and is passage by fire from twisted, grumpy, old miser who hates Christmas to the very opposite (except he stays old). After the death of Scrooge's business partner, Scrooge has got even more miserable and spiteful than ever and everyone fears and avoids him. Even his sole employee, Bob Cratchet (Gary Oldman) lives in misery, not allowed ... ...this film is so fantastic a telling, this would merely enhance the tediousness of an overly told story but the computer generated recreation and the direction of this film make it wonderful to watch. It’s directed by Robert Zemeckis, the man responsible for The Polar Express and Beowulf . He uses the same sort of 3-D capturing here that he used in those films. Basically this is a technique were he captures the movements etc. of real actors and ...

Good old Mr Toad!
Advantages: funny, appeals to all ages, good actors Disadvantages: you will likely already know the plot
This is the latest version on dvd of the Wind in the Willows which was released out on dvd 26/03/2007. I found this version of the classic tale to be the greatest version yet and i think Matt Lucas from little Britain play a quality character as good old Mr Toad. This dvd will appeal to children and adults alike, definately a must see film.
The film is set in the english countryside with lovely picturesque views, the dialogue of the characters and ... ...your little rowing boat across the river. costumes - very detailed, although i doubt anyone would want to wear the simple clothes of Mole or Badger, the lovely suits worn by Mr Toad, Rat and the weasels are simply divine. soundtrack - very upbeat and jolly music when all is well and good but things turn sinister when theres a weasel around. story - The weasels have bought a field from Mr Toad leaving poor Mole (lee ingleby) without a place to call ...

Fern Gully -- Great for kids
Advantages: Positive message about saving rain forests Disadvantages: Scary monster may be intense for very young children
My two kids (between ages of 4 and 9) loved this animated movie and would watch it over and over. It has lively music, an appealing story line about a fairy rebelling against the status quo, but then learning the important lesson of protecting her home and loved ones. It has a lot of magic (duh, fairies), but the fruit bat (played by Robin Williams) provides one of the best manic Robin Williams comedy routines around. This may not be adivsable for ... ...evil character who comes very close to killing all the very likeable main characters. He is truly demonic in his characterization. Lots of loud, frightening scenes at the end which would definitely have frightened my son if he watched when he was 2 or 3. However, for kids between 5 and 10, I recommend this movie highly. My kids loved it and I think your kids would love it, too. ...
