Advantages: fun family film Disadvantages: tips for children to be naughty
...fun sunday afternoon!! Nanny Mcphee is a modern day Mary Poppins with a slight twist. The film starts off with Mr Cedric brown (Colin Firth) telling you about the story that is to come with the picture showing a pink chair, which his late wife used to sit in. Mr Brown has seven children who are very naughty to say the least and have already just seen off the 17th nanny and when he goes to try and get another nanny to work for him the door is closed ... ..."the person you need is Nanny Mcphee" but is then told she is not on their books. That night the children go wild at home and tie the cook to the kitchen table as they get up to no good, the whole household is in turmoil as a black figure appears at the door which turns out to be Nanny Mcphee (Emma Thompson)she has a long black dress on and holds a crooked walking stick which in time proves to be magic, her face is quite ugly as she has one large ...

What a 'sweet' (groan) film
Advantages: Amazingly good film Disadvantages: Its a little short
...here neither of them disappoint, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an absolute gem of a film. Brilliantly scripted, directed and acted. Johnny Depp’s bizarre and wonderful Willy Wonka has serious shades of Michael Jackson about him and he manages to create a character which appears to be almost child-like whilst at the same time have a very dark edge. The plot of the film sticks very closely to the book, closer than the Gene Wilder version of ... ...you think of the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory (or Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory as it is actually called) you think of the Oompa-Lumpas, well here they are very different, butter in my opinion better. Gone are the oranges faces and green hair, they have been replaced with someone (they are all one man) who (and I mean this with all due respect) looks a bit funny. The songs have been taken from the book and have been wonderfully ...

Dahl would much have preferred this version,I'm sure
Advantages: The collective genius of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Roald Dahl . Disadvantages: None
CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
I HAD to love this film, let’s face it a combination of Johnny Depp’s acting (and let’s face it just to be able to look at him), Tim Burton’s directing and a film based on a book from the pen of the fantastic Roald Dahl made it a must watch.
I had always enjoyed the 1971 Gene Wilder film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, although it was based – like this one – on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald ... ...rights to the sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
THE PLOT
I hardly think that there is any need to go into great deal about the plot – it is, I am sure, widely known by most people.
Willy Wonka owned the largest chocolate factory in the world. No one had been inside the factory in years, ever since he closed it down when industrial spies began to steal his secrets.
One day Willy Wonka decided to put a ‘golden ticket’ inside ...

# "..Willy Wonka, The Amazing Chocolateer"
Advantages: Visually Impresses, Very Dahl-esque Disadvantages: Comparisons with the novel and 1971 movie

Kris Kringle Is Not Crackers
Advantages: original version is cleaned up and presented in original black and white Disadvantages: remake suffers greatly when presented with the original for comparison
...as Kris is released. The miracle has not happened yet though, for that is a miracle of the heart. No, that happens on the way home, as a young Susan sees the house of her dreams on the route Kris has told them to take to avoid traffic. A house, with a cane like Kris' leaned against the chimney and a wedding proposal from Fred to one now thawed hearted Doris. Aww... Starring Maureen O' Hara as Doris, John Payne (Fred Gailey), Edmund Gwenn (Kris Kringle), ... ...is indeed a star studded affair. Natalie Wood's childhood portrayal is precociously good, with no playing for the camera or simpering and makes this a fun film to watch. Maureen O'Hara does quite well with what could have been a difficult role to play. Doris Walker is a complicated character; she is caring, yet cynical and a bit hard, yet with a centre still a bit marshmallowy if you can get past the slightly crunchy exterior. She manages to pull ...
