Howl's Moving Castle
Review of Howl's Moving Castle (One Disc Edition) by
cmariee
Advantages: Family-friendly, abundance of themes, top-notch graphics
Disadvantages: Based on a book, readers may be biased if comparing
I'm a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki movies but this particular movie is without a doubt one of my favourites. Not only is it family friendly enough for my 4 and 10 year old sisters, the adults of the house can enjoy the delightful dashes of romance, the underlying humour and sarcasm and the all too relatable themes of war and corrupt power. Knowing it was an animated movie, I was surprised at how complex the range and dynamics of the characters and ... ...family is watching it as I write this review and even after 7 viewings, it still manages to steal everyone's attention. The fact that it is set in a fantasy land of sorcerers, demons and interactive scarecrows just adds to its charm. Admittedly, I'm certain that there's a part of everyone that would enjoy SOMETHING in this film. ...

Winnie the Pooh - Heffalump Movie
Review of Winnie The Pooh - Pooh's Heffalump Movie (Animated) by
magicalglitter
Advantages: Great morals
Disadvantages: Somewhat predicatable (but this is of course not a worry for children)
...just like in all the Winnie the Pooh films, and they guarantee at least a smile if not a great laugh. The story line is not too obvious for children. It is nice to see Roo (and a little bit of Piglet) as a focus in this film as he isn't normaly much of starring role in the Pooh films; so it is good for those who have Piglet down as their favourite character :)
Extras: A great little hide and seek game to play, backstage feature, recipe
Subtitles: ...

What is a Foosa?
Review of Madagascar (Animated) by
atytyut2434
Advantages: Great animation & parodies
Disadvantages: A bit too short
A CGI animated feature where some pampered New York Zoo animals escape, roam the city then end up on an island where friendships are tested to the extreme. A short plot review but it covers a large percentage of the actual movie.
Included in the some the movies parodied are Tom Hank's Cast Away, Charlton Heston's Planet Of The Apes, Silence Of The Lambs. Oh, and Tarzan (twice) & George Of The Jungle I suppose. Sacha Baron Cohen sounds like he is ... ...I actually thought it was until I read the cast list) and Spike Milligan doing some of his Goon's voices.
Chris Rock's animated Zebra actually does look a bit like him. Right, my main question - what kind of animal is a Foosa? They look a bit like some of the Lions and big Cats out of The Lion King. By the way, WHO THE HELL IS Cedric The Entertainer? Why should we know him? We in the UK assume he's been in some TV show in the US? Generally I think ...

Two-Dimensional
Review of The Adventures Of Shark Boy And Lava Girl (3D And 2D) by
afy9mab
Advantages: A couple of amusing performances
Disadvantages: A lack of care in all aspects of the production, but especially the special effects and acting
...made of molten lava. But the problems really begin when Sharkboy and Lavagirl break out into the real world. Their home planet is in danger and Max is the only one that can save it from darkness; but will he have the courage to believe in himself?
"Sin City" director Robert Rodriguez goes from the sublime to the ridiculous with this half-baked endeavour designed to appease the kiddie market still champing at the bit for another "Spy Kids" movie. ... ...a family affair. Three of the Rodriguez offspring have small roles as Sharkboy at various ages, but it doesn't end there. Based on the stories and dreams of his eight year-old son, this gimmicky pile of tripe fails to satisfy on virtually every level. It feels exactly as though it's been written by a child, more closely resembling a computer game than a feature film thanks to its' lack of narrative and the irritating way the characters have to achieve ...

Worthy Third Installment
Review of High School Musical 3 - Senior Year DVD by
katygriff
Advantages: Fun
Disadvantages: None
I love High School Musical and I saw the third one at the cinema last weekend now for the second time as I love it so much. It is the most fun and fantastic film and follows on from the first two very well due to its slightly more grown up feel and songs and dances. This review will hopefully tell you why this trilogy has been finished off perfectly with this fab third film.
Story of this film is that it is senior year at East high school and everybody ... ...This film shows that the high school musical franchise is as strong as ever and the third installment still captures all of the Disney magic and once again leaves the audience wanting more. I have to say that this film is definitely one you should go and see if you want a couple of hours of pure fun.
The film lasts for just under 2 hours which seems long but it goes by in a flash and as always with these films it is a Universal certificate. You ...
