Nanny McPhee - she's who you need
Review of Nanny McPhee DVD by
jennyf16
Advantages: great for the whole family
Disadvantages: may be a little scary for the youngest ones
OK, so I'm nearly 23 but I've wanted to see this film since I saw it advertised when it was at the cinema. Not being able ton convince anyone that they too want to watch it I decided to watch it once lonely Saturday night.
I had visioned a bit of a twist on Mary Poppins but this wasn't to be. I do not want to give away the plot.
The film is aimed at children however I did enjoy it! It did have it's twists and turns and so the plot wasn't entirely ... ...of the film is but I wouldn't recommend letting young children watch it alone, anything about 8 or 10 will probably be fine on their own.
This film had some great acting from Colin Firth but inparticular from Simon, the young boy. I'm sure I've seen him in something before but can't quite place what. Children will find the film funny and perhaps scary in parts but it's a non stop film with no scenes there just to fill.
Great family film for a rainy ...

Winnie the Pooh - Heffalump Movie
Review of Winnie The Pooh - Pooh's Heffalump Movie (Animated) by
magicalglitter
Advantages: Great morals
Disadvantages: Somewhat predicatable (but this is of course not a worry for children)
...just like in all the Winnie the Pooh films, and they guarantee at least a smile if not a great laugh. The story line is not too obvious for children. It is nice to see Roo (and a little bit of Piglet) as a focus in this film as he isn't normaly much of starring role in the Pooh films; so it is good for those who have Piglet down as their favourite character :)
Extras: A great little hide and seek game to play, backstage feature, recipe
Subtitles: ...

Review of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire DVD by
maccoll7
Advantages: Dictation of Languages, Subtitles, Special features
Disadvantages: Length, Language Subtitles, Some of the Acting
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is an Action - Packed adventure, with many a twist and many a turn. As most will know, this is the fourth of seven movies in the harry potter series, and is as action packed as its predecessors. Harry Potter is entering his fourth year of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the tri-wizard tournament occur, a student from each school is picked to go forward to represent their school where "eternal ... ...extra tri-wizard champion, and has to go forward with the tasks.
Knowing the books very well, I instantly spotted parts of the books which have been missed out of the film, such as the Quidditch World Cup, which was disappointing, but including this in the film would have made this even longer than it already is. The actors who play the teachers portrays their character in the book perfectly, but some of the actors playing the students need a bit ...

Howl's Moving Castle
Review of Howl's Moving Castle (One Disc Edition) by
cmariee
Advantages: Family-friendly, abundance of themes, top-notch graphics
Disadvantages: Based on a book, readers may be biased if comparing
I'm a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki movies but this particular movie is without a doubt one of my favourites. Not only is it family friendly enough for my 4 and 10 year old sisters, the adults of the house can enjoy the delightful dashes of romance, the underlying humour and sarcasm and the all too relatable themes of war and corrupt power. Knowing it was an animated movie, I was surprised at how complex the range and dynamics of the characters and ... ...family is watching it as I write this review and even after 7 viewings, it still manages to steal everyone's attention. The fact that it is set in a fantasy land of sorcerers, demons and interactive scarecrows just adds to its charm. Admittedly, I'm certain that there's a part of everyone that would enjoy SOMETHING in this film. ...

Racing stripes - good clean humour all ages
Review of Racing Stripes DVD by
Topazblue69
Advantages: great story enjoyable for all the family and amazing cheap
Disadvantages: bit slow at the start
Bought this on a whim when I found it in the bargain section for £2.99. I first watched it with my parents both in their 60s and the three of us couldn't stop laughing. Watch out for the flies and the pelican they'll have you in stitches. The film about a zebra who is brought up believing he is a horse. Although he recognises he is different at first he has no idea that the reason is that he is a zebra. His owner decides to train him to be a race ...
