Walk the llama llama
Advantages: Funny, family friendly Disadvantages: None, really
...Disney films, they are, on the whole, so incredibly watchable, with things to appeal be you 2 or 20, 8 or 80, and everything in between. I find them clever, but not in a frustrating way that means I can't enjoy them at face value. This review is of the Disney film The Emperor's New Groove, what I believe to be the best Disney since Toy Story 2. They have had a bit of a bad patch over the last decade or so, well I think they have, but this is of something ... ...Emperor's New Groove at the cinema. I was still at school, and due to the price of cinema tickets and the fact that my village has a barely existent public transport system (only 1 bus after 6pm, and that's not reliable), I very seldom went to the cinema at the time, still don't as a matter of fact, but The Emperor's New Groove appealed sufficiently that I begged and cajoled until I was given a lift to and from the Metro, so I could get into Newcastle, ...

This is BAD
Advantages: None Disadvantages: It's crap
The 1950's and 1960's saw Walt Disney breaking new ground by merging animation and live action into a single amalgamation if not seamlessly then at least convincingly. It was a revolutionary move that tickled the imagination and gave rise to all sorts of possibilities.
For many years, such mingling and meshing went on, but really came to the fore in feature films with the extraordinary Who Framed Roger Rabbit? featuring Bob Hoskins and an unbelievably ... ...fair amount of flair, and the cartoon sensibilities of its makers meant that almost exactly the right balance was struck. It was a rip roaring success and enormously enjoyable.
However, as good as Roger Rabbit was, when they decided to repeat the trick with the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie in 2000, the flaws were there for all to see and this film is almost unwatchable, even given the presence of Robert De Niro and his half assed parody of the "Are ...

The Emperor is Groovy!
Advantages: Fabulous characters and soundtrack Disadvantages: A fairly weak storyline by Disney standards
...'The Emperor's New Groove,' at the cinema when it first came out. Although I was not blown away in the same way I was with 'The Lion King,' or 'Lilo and Stitch,' I did leave the cinema feeling as though I had enjoyed myself. Not enough, however, to purchase the original DVD release. When the collector's edition came how, though, I just had to have it. As I die-hard Disney fanatic I would have been a cardinal sin not to. I purchased my copy for £17.99 ... ...it much cheaper now.
The story itself was not excellent, but the characters were fabulous. Disney never fail to deliver in this aspect of their animated film production. Emperor Kuzco, voiced by David Spades is a spoilt brat. He treats his subjects terribly and his actions are all performed with solely his own gain in mind. One day, however, he makes a mistake! He fires his advisor, Yzma (voiced fabulously by Eartha Kitt). Yzma, who is a sorcerer, ...

Good fun!
Advantages: Dialogue, cracking pace, excellent animation Disadvantages: May not be suitable for children who are old enough to understand innuendo
...for adults as well and Ice Age 3 certainly delivered on that front. I've seen Ice Age2 on TV but not the first film and never in the cinema. On top of that this was a 3D show. The story essentially follows Manny, the mammoth, his heavily pregnant wife, Ellie and Diego, the sabre toothed tiger as they venture under the ice to a land where dinosaurs are not extinct. They do this to try and rescue Sid, who feeling unloved due to the impending arrival ... ...subsequently been carried off with his 'children' by their real mother. In dinosaur world they meet Buck, the weasel with the Sylvester Stallone eyepatch and knife, the British accent (Simon Pegg voices him) and the literary connections to Captain Ahab of Moby Dick (both have been left injured by 'the great white beast', both are unnaturally obsessed and slightly unhinged by it). As a sideline, Scratt is still seeking his acorn but this time there ...

"I thought you guys were extinct?"
Advantages: amazing picture quality, good fun for all the family! Disadvantages: Cant think of any.
I bought my wife Ice Age 3 for Christmas. She asked for it. Can't say its my type of film, but being a loving husband I sat down and watched it with her anyway. The first thing that struck me, being a blu ray, is the amazing quality. Animated films and comic-esque outings (like the Simpsons) always take full advantage of the High Definition nature of blu ray and make a movie a pleasure for the eye to behold. Ice Age 3 is quite possibly the best example ... ...were apparently living below the ice and meeting a swash buckling weasel who helps save the day. All the while, we get to watch the fun adventures of the little chap chasing his acorn, that have been present in the past films. This time, there's a love interest!! Its quite a good watch and plenty of fun for all the family. The usual deleted scenes and such are present, I can't say I watched them though, sorry, but its not my cup-of-tea, as I said. ...
