Advantages: Brilliantly done and lots of gorgeous dogs! Disadvantages: None unless you don't like dogs
...always loved the original animated 101 Dalmatians Disney film but, when the non animated film was brought out it really was a brilliant film in my eyes. I love Dalmatians and after owning one year' s back it is one of those films that as a Dalmatian owner you can truly appreciate how much work has gone into making this film so special! The story:
The story of the film is the same as that of the animated one. Pongo and Perdy are two Dalmatians that ... ...decided to get married. Perdy eventually gives birth to 15 gorgeous puppies but, Cruella De Vil, who is Anita's boss and loves fur, is determined to get her hands on them and the rest of London's Dalmatian puppies to enable her to make her latest fur coats. She sends in her men, Jasper and Horace to steal the puppies. However they hadn't reckoned on the forces of the doggy world! The cast:
I think this is a great film and even more so because of ...
Advantages: Truly inspirational and funny, totally charming. Disadvantages: Child actors are a bit naff.
Ever since seeing this as an older child during its run on ITV, I've been hooked on the Rottentrolls. The show centres around the exploits of a hapless group of trolls living in a remote Yorkshire valley, transported there by accident "when Merlin tried to create a ski resort for King Arthur", and a young boy called Roger, who becomes their King (also by accident). With brilliantly conceived characters, sharp wit, engaging narration by Martin Clunes, ... ...the modern world and its complexities, the show almost works better for adults than for children.
Characters to look out for include Yockenthwaite, a bobble-hatted berk around whom many of the stories focus, and Commander Harris, an Ex-Army sheep mascot, who is ever alert to the threat of outsiders, with his impressive array of sheep radar. Most of the characters are named after Yorkshire places, including the punning "Penny Ghent", and the entire ...
Advantages: Fantastic for the entire family! Disadvantages: Slapstick based comedy can get a tad tirsome for older viewers towards the end.
...grin with delight whenever a muppet character is around!
This film is one that no family should miss out on. It takes Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of adventure and entwines it with classic comedy conventions to entertain and engage with a young audience, whilst also keeping adults content. It looks like Tim Henson has done it again! Be prepared to sing along because....."we've got cabin fever!!!"

Advantages: Brilliant story, well adapted for teh screen Disadvantages: The real life bits
James And The Giant Peach is a splendid film version (part real life, part animation) of a wonderful book by Roald Dahl.
It tells the story of a boy who is orphaned and goes to live with his foul old aunts but ends up sailing away on a giant peach which grows in his garden. Sounds pretty naff, don't it? But rest assured the reality is a wonderful thing and the book is as good as any that Dahl ever wrote.
The film version, however, is absolutely ... ...voyage by all manner of friendly but very prickly giant insects (the spider is a worrying, perverse, very sexy creation).
I've seen the film several times and believe me it doesn't age with the viewings - this is one of those timeless family entertainment films that gives the genre a good name. I don't know anyone apart from one other writer on Ciao who doesn't love this film. I can't see the problem and I disagree with a lot of what he says.
