Labyrinth- one of the most enchanting children's films ever made?
Advantages: Fun, imaginative family-friendly film, enchanting storyline, charming characters. Disadvantages: Slighty gimmicky in places, stereotypically '80s'.
Jim Henson, as most of us know, is chiefly recognised for his puppetry and crazy protagnonists. His films are mainstream and child- friendly, and this fits nicely into that category.
However, just because this is a mainstream production, doesn't mean to say it lacks charisma and charm, and it doesn't have a consistent yet surprising storyline. Sarah, played by Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind), is a young woman with a big ... ...baby brother Toby (Toby Froud) would be taken away by goblins... and her wish is granted. The ringleader of the goblin cult is Jareth, played by glam rock legend David Bowie, which contributes an outstandingly colloquial yet gripping performance. Connelly, as always, is on top form here, representing her character naturally and effortlessly.
This film is aimed at children, but there are a lot of elements that an older audience can identify with- ...

Labyrinth - David Bowie and Sarah Connelly - Loved it
Advantages: Very watchable with an strong feel good factor. All turns out right in the end Disadvantages: None
I have owned this product on video for a number of years and love it. It awakens the imagination, has characters you can relate to and an excellent soundtrack. Although not a true David Bowie fan, he is at his best here as the Goblin King. Sarah is a teenager whose mother has died and her father has remarried to a step-mother she resents although the step-mother is not of the usual "wicked" variety, and Sarah now has a young baby brother - Toby. ... ...has inherited from her late mother and her resentment grows when she is left at home to watch the baby when her father and step-mother go for an evening out. It is a dark stormy night and the baby will not stop crying. Sarah wishes the goblins would come and take the child away and guess what....
The rest of the film is taken up with her journey to rescue the child and is an excellent mix of comedy and fantasy with some excellent lines from the ...

Labyrinth DVD
INTRODUCTION
Labyrinth was first released in 1986. It is a fantasy film directed by Jim Henson (creator of The Muppets) and produced by George Lucas (creator of Star Wars). The lead characters in this film are played by David Bowie, a well known singer, and Jennifer Connelly who was not well known for her acting. This film turned Jennifer into a star. Most of the other characters are puppets of magical creatures. PLOT
Sarah Williams ... ...stop. She recites lines from Labyrinth to tease the child. The story she tells him is of a poor 15 year old girl who is fed up of looking after her baby brother. Fortunately, the Goblin King has fallen in love with the girl and given her special powers. The girl just has to say the right words and the Goblin King will come and take away the baby. After this story Toby carries on crying and Sarah leaves him but suddenly everything goes quiet. The ...

Good fun!
Advantages: Dialogue, cracking pace, excellent animation Disadvantages: May not be suitable for children who are old enough to understand innuendo
...for adults as well and Ice Age 3 certainly delivered on that front. I've seen Ice Age2 on TV but not the first film and never in the cinema. On top of that this was a 3D show. The story essentially follows Manny, the mammoth, his heavily pregnant wife, Ellie and Diego, the sabre toothed tiger as they venture under the ice to a land where dinosaurs are not extinct. They do this to try and rescue Sid, who feeling unloved due to the impending arrival ... ...subsequently been carried off with his 'children' by their real mother. In dinosaur world they meet Buck, the weasel with the Sylvester Stallone eyepatch and knife, the British accent (Simon Pegg voices him) and the literary connections to Captain Ahab of Moby Dick (both have been left injured by 'the great white beast', both are unnaturally obsessed and slightly unhinged by it). As a sideline, Scratt is still seeking his acorn but this time there ...

"I thought you guys were extinct?"
Advantages: amazing picture quality, good fun for all the family! Disadvantages: Cant think of any.
I bought my wife Ice Age 3 for Christmas. She asked for it. Can't say its my type of film, but being a loving husband I sat down and watched it with her anyway. The first thing that struck me, being a blu ray, is the amazing quality. Animated films and comic-esque outings (like the Simpsons) always take full advantage of the High Definition nature of blu ray and make a movie a pleasure for the eye to behold. Ice Age 3 is quite possibly the best example ... ...were apparently living below the ice and meeting a swash buckling weasel who helps save the day. All the while, we get to watch the fun adventures of the little chap chasing his acorn, that have been present in the past films. This time, there's a love interest!! Its quite a good watch and plenty of fun for all the family. The usual deleted scenes and such are present, I can't say I watched them though, sorry, but its not my cup-of-tea, as I said. ...
