Winnie the Pooh and Me Too!

Advantages: classic stories, well crafted songs, excellent remastering of picture and sound
Disadvantages: some disapprove as Shepard's drawings were not recreated for animation

...week. The many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was one of the films that would appear every now and again, and I would sit down to watch it with great delight. I was such a huge fan, that my parents bought me Winnie The Pooh print dresses from the local Sears department stores, and I would have that identical dress again and again as I grew to the next size until at last, alas, I was too old to fit in the smaller children's sizes. This film was responsible ...
...three original shorts were: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966) Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too! (1974) Based upon the works of A.A. Milne, they were nonetheless Disneyfied versions of the stories and characters, so not completely faithful to the books. The film opens with a book being read by a narrator, and the pictures come alive as he reads. Winnie the Pooh and the Hunny Tree focuses on Pooh Bear ...

Will someone rescue my memories

Advantages: Nice story
Disadvantages: Not the film I remember

After watching The Rescuers last night I decided that some things are best left in the past, because the memories are far better than the reality. Synopsis The film starts with a young girl throwing a bottle off the back of a Mississippi style steam boat, the bottle has a message on it, and through the glass we can see the word 'help'. The bottle drifts downstream and through the waters until it comes to rest close to the home of a few mice. ...
...of mouse delegates from around the world. Bernard the janitor is instructed to retrieve the message, and when he does they can see that it is from an orphaned girl called Penny, who asks for help. Hungarian delegate Miss Bianca offers to undertake the mission, but since this is the first time a female mouse has taken on a mission, Bernard is asked to accompany her. So they set off to the orphanage to find out who Penny is, and why she needs help, ...

I Wish I Had A Dragon

Advantages: well written and preformed tale , quality song score
Disadvantages: widescreen aspect lost to square TV rendering aspect

In 1977, I was six years old a local cinema always ran children's matinees once a month where parents dropped off us kids, who were watched over by ushers, and left us to enjoy the magic show and the movie. This is one of the first films I got to see during one of these events, and while it was a box office failure at the time, I was smitten with the film. I must not have been the only one, as when it appeared not too long after on the TV as part ...
...up, it was a hot topic on the playground. Now, most of the kids I knew had not seen it at the cinema as I had; there was a recession on and cinema tickets and such were simply non essentials. These kids' parents were struggling to make ends meet, so just those of us who had parents with some disposable income could afford the odd treat like this. No matter, see it most everyone I knew did, whether at the cinema or on the TV, and we all loved it. ...

Good fun!

Advantages: Dialogue, cracking pace, excellent animation
Disadvantages: May not be suitable for children who are old enough to understand innuendo

...for adults as well and Ice Age 3 certainly delivered on that front. I've seen Ice Age2 on TV but not the first film and never in the cinema. On top of that this was a 3D show. The story essentially follows Manny, the mammoth, his heavily pregnant wife, Ellie and Diego, the sabre toothed tiger as they venture under the ice to a land where dinosaurs are not extinct. They do this to try and rescue Sid, who feeling unloved due to the impending arrival ...
...subsequently been carried off with his 'children' by their real mother. In dinosaur world they meet Buck, the weasel with the Sylvester Stallone eyepatch and knife, the British accent (Simon Pegg voices him) and the literary connections to Captain Ahab of Moby Dick (both have been left injured by 'the great white beast', both are unnaturally obsessed and slightly unhinged by it). As a sideline, Scratt is still seeking his acorn but this time there ...

"I thought you guys were extinct?"

Advantages: amazing picture quality, good fun for all the family!
Disadvantages: Cant think of any.

I bought my wife Ice Age 3 for Christmas. She asked for it. Can't say its my type of film, but being a loving husband I sat down and watched it with her anyway. The first thing that struck me, being a blu ray, is the amazing quality. Animated films and comic-esque outings (like the Simpsons) always take full advantage of the High Definition nature of blu ray and make a movie a pleasure for the eye to behold. Ice Age 3 is quite possibly the best example ...
...were apparently living below the ice and meeting a swash buckling weasel who helps save the day. All the while, we get to watch the fun adventures of the little chap chasing his acorn, that have been present in the past films. This time, there's a love interest!! Its quite a good watch and plenty of fun for all the family. The usual deleted scenes and such are present, I can't say I watched them though, sorry, but its not my cup-of-tea, as I said. ...
