Advantages: suitably chilling, well scripted, well executed, superb acting from everyone involved - as soon as I can, I intend to make this a part of my video collection Disadvantages: ending is slightly spoiled by the opening scene, also the ending is in a similar vein to Se7en i.e. heart wrenching, which some people might not like

Despite this film being released in 1998, I failed to notice or even hear of it, and of all channels, I saw it on channel 5. After seeing it I was inclined to go and look it up in HMV, and there it was, released only 3 years ago, and being compared to the masterpiece that is Se7en, which I can honestly say is not a bad match.
Starring Denzel Washington, he takes on the role of John Hobbes, a police detective who takes no cream(i.e. no extra money for slightly illegal doings) plays it straight by the book, and is hailed as a hero when he brings down a particularly pyschotic serial killer. So far so good. He has a partner, in the form of John Goodman known as Jonesy, who seems pretty decent too, but when copy cat killings begin to occur that shadow very faithfully those of the now dead serial killer(I'll call him arabic spouting man cos I can't remember his name or ASM). The method of killing involves a certain sleeping poison, and the murderer calmly eating cereal after the crime(he's a cereal munching serial killer!). Somewhat cryptic clues are left at the scene of the crime, and as always(how do they solve these riddles) Hobbes traces the clue back to a certain decorated officer, named Milano, who committed suicide 3 decades earlier. Hobbes, despite his boss(Sutherland) telling him not to get invloved, traces the dead cops daughter, who is at first reluctant to speak with him, and on their first meeting gives very little away. But as he pushes more, investigating the palce where the cop shot himself, he finds out some extremely strange things, and eventually comes to the conclusion, with the help of Milano's daughter, that the serial killer is not one person, but one of the 'Fallen' an Angel tossed down from heaven who got lost on their way to hell. This particular fallen is Arazael(I think) who apparently couldn't get into Milano, and therefore became obsessed with him, framing him for several murders...and apparently pushing himself to suicide. Hobbes is like Milano, he shook hands with Arazael yet failed to be possessed by him. Soon, more murders occur, and more clues appear, including certain pieces of evidence that implicate Hobbes. History repeating? Certainly looks like it.
It's hard for me not to tell you every little detail about this movie, but it's so well done, it's so intriguing, that I think you should go and find out what happens next for yourself. Other stars who appear include Keiffer Sutherland, who I am not normally a fan of, but he is exceedingly suited to his role as police chief(I think that's what he is anyway) and also an appearance by Mr. Tony Soprano himself, sporting an exceedingly disturbing handle bar mustache is worth looking into the film alone. Washington carries the film very well, but the orchestration of the disconserting, supernatural set pieces(yes the killings are a lot more than copy cat killings) is simply fantastic, every member of the cast is seemingly perfect for their part, and the ending is *almost* as good as the climax to se7en, although the fact that the opening scene, if you take any notice practically gives away the ending is slightly annoying can be forgiven because the rest of the film is so good. It's an excellent idea turned into a brilliant film, more films should be like this, such as Hannibal, which descended into pure pantomime as it wore on. This, thankfully, does not, and is a whole lot better for it.
Advantages: Unique story, good actors, different ending! Disadvantages: Excellent film, but not a 'classic'.
I first heard about this film a couple of years ago, when we bought a satellite and one channel was showing the trailers for it every hour or so. It was then shown every single day for about two weeks, hence I got to see it plenty of times! The film was released back in 1998, and stars Denzel Washington as the main character (John Hobbes). You'll also recognise John Goodman (Jonesy) and Donald Sutherland (Lieutenant Stanton) who also play major roles ... ...little bit about it, incase you haven't seen it yet.
The film begins with homicide detective John Hobbes (Denzel) having caught and convicted a crazy murderer, who is sentenced to death in the gas chamber. He meets with the prisoner before he is gassed in a weird scene. You then see the execution, and how John Hobbes is happy that the case is now finally closed. However, his happiness is short lived as copycat murders start taking place in the same ...

...I really enjoyed this film, the story line was very easy to follow. It was full of exciting scenarios but most of all, months later you can still hear the serial killer singing his song, "TIME........TIME AFTER TIME". I think the ending leaves an option for a Fallen 2 !! ...

...as azazel comes from the fallen angels who have been cast out of heaven and seek revenge by possessing human souls. It is a great twist of fate, espeically as having being possessed by the spirit you sing the Rolling Stones song "Time is on my side..." (a certain sense of irony as the ending shows).
The storyline seems quite far fetched but it is portrayed excellently,. There is just one glitch where it does seem a bit OTT but it's only a minor ...

Advantages: Brilliant! Disadvantages: DVD extras are weak.
This film is a classic. I love horror films, but am never scared by them. This film got me!
The film has an unusual storyline which is brilliantly acted, scripted and shot! Detective John Hobs catches a murderer that has commited some horrific murders! The film opens with Hobbs dying and he starts his story. He is then talking to a man, before his execution, who speaks in many toungues. This scene sets the murderer as a completely sane wacko? After ... ...murders start up again and the new killer is targeting Hobbs and trying to set him up. The strangness comes in when the murders are committed by different people!
The 'baddy' in the film is brilliant and really 'freaked' me out. This film has been compared to 'Sixth Sense', but I feel the only similarity is that the film deals with the supernatural.
This film is a classic and is proudly in my DVD collection. If you like well written, well acted ...

Any fans of the first Transformers are sure to enjoy the second, more action-packed film, yet anyone who wasn't so keen on the first, will still enjoy it as there's a much better story and lots more entertainment.
According to IMDb it looks like there's going to be a third Transformers film. I'm not really too sure where they can go from the end of Revenge of the Fallen or that it will live up to it's expectations, but I'm sure it will be bigger, louder and more action-packed than ever.

Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen is the perfect summer movie and does what it is supposed to do, entertain, but is dragged down by plot holes and some acting problems. Directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox This all out action film will leave you with your adrenaline pumping.
Transformers 2 is once again centered around Sam Witwicky and his Autobot friends saving Earth. It opens with a brilliant action scene involving a massive Decepticon Demolisher and smaller car version Decepticon Sideways. The scene takes no time in getting to the action as the Decepticons reveal themselves and, in Transformers style, start to destroy everything within a one mile radius with the gigantic demolisher tearing through full motorways and Sideways smashing through Shanghai houses. The scene ends with Optimus taking the big boy ...

DVD Description
After capturing and prosecuting a brutal serial killer, detective John Hobbes is puzzled by a string of bizarre murders that seem to suggest that the killer is alive--or at least somehow present on Earth. With the help of a beautiful theosophist and his stalwart partner, Hobbes realizes that the killer's spirit is being transferred between the bodies it possesses--and that it may be impossible to stop him now.
