These days I am rather choosy with my movies and I rarely go see a chick flick in the cinema. But as I was feeling very groggy on Monday night, I simply could not face up to the intensity of a horror movie or something more serious - so I opted to view some true girly fluff.

Failure To Launch [2006]
The plot ofFailure to Launchis utterly implausible, yet the movie is thoroughly fun. Tripp ... more
(laid-back Matthew McConaughey,Sahara,Dazed and Confused) is a 35-year-old man who still lives with his parents (Kathy Bates,Misery, and ex-quarterback Terry Bradshaw)--and they aren't happy about it. Eager to get him out of the nest, they hire Paula (Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker), a professional motivator who feigns relationships with boy-men so that their improved self-esteem will lead them to leave the nest. But Tripp's not the usual insecure shut-in Paula's used to, and as sparks fly, Paula finds herself losing her professional distance. This sort of set-up drove classic screwball comedies of the 1930s and 40s; once you embrace the absurdity, the movie zips along with a surprising balance of humour and bittersweet shadings.Failure to Launchgets a huge boost from the supporting performance of Zooey Deschanel (Elf) as Paula's housemate Kit--part sourpuss, part tomboy, and entirely sexy and winning. McConaughey and Parker have enjoyable chemistry and carry the movie well, but Deschanel is an oddball romantic-heroine-in-waiting. Also featuring Bradley Cooper (Alias) and Justin Bartha (National Treasure). --Bret Fetzer

Advantages: funny moments, Matthew McConaughey's best acting performance Disadvantages: no original comedy, Sarah Jessica Parker's performance

He takes them out, he wines and dines them, he makes them feel special - and when they give him the so-called "look", he starts to panic. Not being one for commitment, it means it is time for him to leave - but he is not the one to do the dumping. He takes the ladies to his lovely home, where to their huge shock they discover that he is still ...

...The film we chose was Failure to Launch- a chick flick (oh, quelle surprise Kati!), starring Sarah Jessica Parker, and Matthew McConaughey (I would).
***The Plot***
Tripp (MMcC) is a laddish type, who likes a lot of outdoor sports, has a very successful career selling boats, and is a hit with the ladies. Only, he still lives at home, at the age of 35. His parents are desperate to get him out, but it suits him fine. See, as soon as a girl starts ... ...back away and ditch him with the shock revelation that he still lives chez maman et papa. Plus his ma does all his washing. Then, he meets Paula (SJP), in a chair store (as you do). She comes in for her daily sit down. Still not making an sense? Well, she brings the guys who work there coffee, and they let her have twenty minutes to unwind in her favourite chair. Tripp rudely interrupts her, but as he's so damn fit, she doesn't mind one bit, and ...

Advantages: Sweet Sub Plot, Dynamic Leads, Production Values Disadvantages: Hardly Memorable, Dodgy Story, Bad Romance
...love survive this betrayal?
Failure To Launch is a perfectly pleasant romantic comedy with two dynamic and charming leads and some genuinely funny moments, but unfortunately after the credits role you will instantly forget it and even with its many good element it remains a fairly disappointing entry in the rom-com genre. At the heart of it there is a funny and interesting premise: adults who live with parents at the age of 35 and it allows for ... ...whole host of other films, Failure To Launch doesn't have the zest to be seen as original, the charm to sweep audiences of their feet or the sophistication to be memorable, it is however very enjoyable. As the final scene came to an end I was struck with one emotion -disappointment. I was really looking forward to Failure To Launch but I just wasn't swept off my feet (which is odd as Sarah Jessica Parker could sweep me off my any day), I wasn't charmed ...

Advantages: Passes the time, harmless entertainment Disadvantages: Seen it all before, no new ideas, a few duff attempts at laughs
...over and over again.
Failure To Launch is the latest entry into the Matthew McConaughy rom-com and it's probably the same as all the other ones he's done. Now I haven't seen them but I'd bet a fair sum on them turning out the same as this.
He plays a thirty something named Tripp (yes that's right - Tripp). The thing with Tripp is that he still lives at home and never looks like moving out. He shys away from long term relationships and usually breaks ... ...make him breakfast in the morning. But his parents want the house to themselves and find the perfect way to do it. They get introduced to Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), a woman who specializes in getting men out of their childhood home and into their own place. She does this by staging a chance meeting, going on a date, spending time with them and making them feel independent. They move out, the parents are happy and Paula breaks it off and moves ...

Advantages: Sub plot involving friends, Tripp's parents Disadvantages: Not very funny, predictable
Matthew McConaughey stars as Tripp, a 35 year old man who is still living at home with his parents. He lives the easy life with his mum cleaning up after him, cooking for him and helping him to not have any incentive to move out of the family home. Unknown to him, they want him out, this is where Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) steps in, an interventionist who the parent's employ to get him to want to move out.
The film is very predictable. You know ... ...that I wasn't expecting was the sub plot involving Tripp's friend Ace and Paula's friend Kit. I enjoyed the sub plot more than I enjoyed the main plot of the film. The parts of the film with Tripp's parents played by Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw helped me to stick with this film to the end, making it slightly more interesting than what it is was.
I found Ace and Kit believable funny characters and the relationship between them believable. I also ...

Advantages: Decent comedy Disadvantages: A bit predictable
...a great job, is startled to find that instead of deciding to move out of his parents house, he has decided to dump her. Hurtling towards disaster, Paula has to call him by breaking her ethical work code, which soon leads to other revelations about the pair.
Failure To Launch is one of those sickly-sweet rom coms that Hollywood churns out at a rate of one per week, complete with the modern twist of the cynical best friend to give it an edge of the bittersweet. And where the cynical best friend is usually hysterically good, here Zooey Deschanel just doesn't have the acting ability nor the charisma to do it convincingly. And yet she gets some of the best lines of the film. Its left to Tripp's two friends Ace and Demo then to uphold the comedy end of the film, both of them as dense as the other. Sarah Jessica Parker races through a role...

Advantages: Very funny, the sexy Matthew McConaughey is in it woohoo Disadvantages: None that come to mind
...I am writing my review based on the film "Failure to Launch", with main actors Matthew McConaughey (How to lose a guy in 10 Days) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex in the City). Together they are amazing and very funny actors, had me laughing and on the edge of my seat. It was released in 2006 (March), written by Matt Ember and Tom J Astle and directed by Tom Dey. Its one of those films you either love it or you hate and I can honestly say I think anyone who watches it will like it.
Basic Storyline
Matthew McConaughey plays Tripp who is a 35 year old man who still lives at home with his parents and his mother does literally every thing for him, he doesn't have to do a thing, which you can see why he stays at home. He is single of course and every time a girl gets close to him and he wants to dump them he takes them home to meet...
