Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker, SEX AND THE CITY) has a highly unusual job in this at times cartoonish romantic comedy: she's an interventionist. What this means is that parents of...
more...young men who are still living at home well into adulthood can hire her to date their sons, which lends the often troubled men the fortitude to strike out on their own. Trip (Matthew McConaughey) seemingly fits this description perfectly; a 35-year-old extreme sports enthusiast and boat salesman, he uses his living situation to quickly end any relationship that becomes too serious. Trip's doting mother (Kathy Bates) and quirky father (former quarterback Terry Bradshaw) hire Paula at their friends' adamant recommendation, and she sets about her tried-and-true method of winning Trip over. A few obstacles emerge, however, as Trip's buddy Ace (Justin Bartha) finds out the truth, and must be bribed by a date with Paula's hilariously hostile roommate Kit (Zooey Deschanel). Paula also discovers a few things about Trip's past that make her realise how different he is from the rest of her clients, but just as she begins to develop real feelings for him, disaster strikes. Some of the best and funniest moments in FAILURE TO LAUNCH are provided by its supporting cast. Deschanel provides dry, intelligent humour in a subplot involving a mockingbird that's taken up residence outside her window, as well as her courtship by adoring suitor Ace. Bates as usual gives a complex performance, doing much with the part provided for her, while a game Bradshaw is appealing in his eccentricities. The film's somewhat fantastical plot is quickly eclipsed by the charm of the characters, the irresistible slapstick humour, and, in the end, heart-warming sentiment and lessons learned.

Full review
I am writing my review based on the film "Failure to Launch", with main actors Matthew McConaughey (How to lose a guy in 10 Days) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex in the City). Together they are amazing and very funny actors, had me laughing and on the edge of my seat. It was released in 2006 (March), written by Matt Ember and Tom J Astle and directed by Tom Dey. Its one of those films you either love it or you hate and I can honestly say I think anyone who watches it will like it.

=== Basic Storyline ===
Matthew McConaughey plays Tripp who is a 35 year old man who still lives at home with his parents and his mother does literally every thing for him, he doesn't have to do a thing, which you can see why he stays at home. He is single of course and every time a girl gets close to him and he wants to dump them he takes them home to meet the parents…well that's half the story!! You have to watch it to see how the girls actually meet the parents; I wouldn't like to meet the parents in that situation lets just say. His parents are desperate for there son to move out and want to give him a little push, so they hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) a gorgeous woman who makes a living by getting single 30 year old plus men out of there parents house. Paula does the whole meeting the friends part, meeting the parents and does everything literally in her power to get Tripp to move out, but there is a twist in it which she didn't see coming only his parents…

=== Paula's Basic Job Description ===
She meets the guys
Gets them to ask her out
They go out on a date
She has some sort of "Trauma" which she uses him as a shoulder to cry on
She meets his friends (Gets the friends "nod")
Avoid/delay having sexual intercourse
Let him teach her something
Then his ready to Launch….

I really enjoyed this film, it had me laughing my head off, it's a kind of romantic and comedy all rolled into one, and I am a sucker to chick flicks yet I would actually say this is definitely one for both genders to watch and have a giggle over. Paula's friend Kit adds to the excitement she has a bird which is right outside her window and is constantly making noises and keeping her up which makes her eager to get rid of the bird…which brings her closer to one of Tripp's friends. Tripp has nature against him as one of his friends says in the film as you see him get hurt by animals…I cant say there was anything that I disliked about the film and don't want to give to much away with the film as it is a one to watch which will make you laugh.

=== Packaging and Pricing ===
One the front of the case, is Sarah Jessica Parker in a pink dress pushing a trolley with a sofa chair on it with Matthew McConaughey sitting casually in it, with obviously "Failure to Launch" written on it. I brought this from Asda for £5 the other day. It is also on www.play.com for £5. Which I think is a really good price for the DVD.

I would definitely recommend to anyone who needs a good old laugh and who hasn't seen this film; it is a film you can watch over and over again. What more could you ask for a gorgeous male actor Matthew McConaughey and the sexy Sarah Jessica Parker for the men… why not!!

=== Main Characters ===
Sarah Jessica Parker - Paula
Matthew McConaughey - Tripp
Zooey Deschanel - Kit (Who plays Paula's kind of alcoholic room mate)
Justin Bartha - Ace (Tripp's best friend who also lives with his parents)
Bradley Cooper - Demo (Tripp's other best friend who again lives at home with his parents)
Terry Bradshaw - Al (Tripp's dad)
Kathy Bates - Sue (Tripp's Mum)
Special Features on DVD

2. The Failure to Launch Phenomenon
3. Dating in the new millennium
4. Moviefone.com Unscripted with Matthew McConaughey and Terry Bradshaw

Running time is 92 minutes, it is rated a 12 as does contain some strong language and moderate sex references. You can watch the DVD with subtitles if needed.
