This is a DVD I picked up for £1 a couple of years ago. I suppose the price should have told me something, but I gave it a shot, hoping to have found a bit of a gem.
Face of Terror follows Nick Harper as he tries to find his missing sister in Barcelona. While travelling from the States to Spain without permission from his boss, cop Nick finds himself in even more hot water when he arrives in Europe to find that his sister had fallen in with the wrong crowd. As he trawls through dodgy photographers, drug dealers and terrorists, Nick realises he must have his wits about him if he is to find his sister before he loses his life.
Ultimately, it's distinctly average in nearly every way. with a pretty mundane plot, some terrible acting, and some bad timing in the editing stakes. And yet, strangely, there's something intriguing about it. It seems very much like a made for TV movie, with no famous faces as such. You may notice a couple of faces from shows such as 24, with lead Rick Shroder and terrorist Eric Balfour both having appeared in the hit show, although this is so far removed they're probably not too proud of the comparison.
There are some nice locations used in the filming, and despite the poor editing that makes some of the timing seem off, the scenery is beautiful. Any poignant moments or any dramatics that have an attempt at emphasis levelled at it fall way short of the mark, and are almost laughable, but when there is just simple dialogue and plot development occurring, then it's not a complete disaster.
I must admit, I watched this expecting something a lot slicker, but instead I got something dodgy at best. There are some ncie touches, but they are few and far between, and it is only the fact that it kept me somewhat entertained throughout that it manages 2 stars and not the solitary 1 that I was close to giving it. The DVD contained no extras, not that I would have wanted to watch them. It's currently available from amazon.co.uk for £8.07. Don't waste your money!
