...film Amelie, or rather, Le Fabuleux destin d' Amélie Poulain, is a French film, but don't let that put you off - you'll never see anything else like it in your life! It's a truly unique film that you experience rather than just watch!
THE STORYLINE
Within the first five minutes of the film, we are introduced to the young Amelie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) and her parents. Although not by any means dislike, they don't seem to particularly love their ... ...Amelie's father gives her a health check up, her heart begins to race, and he diagnoses a heart defect. Because of this, she is educated at home.
She compensates for her solitary life with an over-active imagination. Her strange home life doesn't help - she has a goldfish with a death wish and her neurotic mother dies in frankly bizarre circumstances when she gets in the way of a botched suicide plan. Amelie lives at home with her quiet and introverted ...

Advantages: Great acting, cool story, great cinematography Disadvantages: None
As a French a-level student, it was recommended to me to watch Amelie in order to help my studies. Of course I wasn’t kidding myself, I knew I wouldn’t understand much without the subtitles so at first I left them on! I must say this film went much further than an aide for college work; it became something that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.
This film, of course, revolves around the main character who is called Amelie Poulain (played ... ...of the film we are told of Amelie’s childhood. To say the least, it is an unusual one. Amelie’s parents are too over- protective and really all Amelie longs for is the touch of her father. Therefore when he performs a monthly medical check on her, her heartbeat increases and they think she has some sort of heart problem. This leads to Amelie having a sheltered life and her being home-schooled. All the isolation provokes Amelie’s imagination, which ...

Advantages: Perfect performances and gorgeous storyline Disadvantages: Might be a bit too feelgood for some people, subtitles
'"Le Fabuleux destin d' Amélie Poulain"?' I hear you cry. 'That sounds like a foreign film to me!'
Well, you're right. Le Fabuleux destin d' Amélie Poulain, or Amélie, as it's more widely known, is a French film, and no, it doesn't have dubbing, but old-fashioned subtitles. But don't let that put you off. I swear that even the biggest Francophobe among you will be won over by the sweet, whimsical heart of this gorgeously quirky little film. The ... ...the title, a Parisian waitress who lives in a little flat on her own, has a stiffled and unloving relationship with her only surviving parent, her doctor father, and no friends.
Amélie cultivates her solitary life by living in a dream world, coming up with strange little questions, like 'how many couples are having orgasms right at this minute?' The answer, apparently, is fifteen! Amélie's life continues with little direction or meaning, until she ...

Ten word review: Imaginative Parisian girl finds true love through creativity and benevolence.
Okay, so not one for a drunken Friday night, obviously. But if your heart is warmed by good cinema as well as a hot toddy, then welcome to the world of Amelie. Please drive slowly and enjoy the scenery.
We are introduced to Amelie via her odd parent’s likes and dislikes (you’ll see) – her mother is a nervous wreck, and her father, Raphael, ... ...an occasional hug, so the thrill his monthly medical check up on her provides leads him to believe she has a heart condition. This, coupled with the fact that her pet goldfish Blubber is suicidal, leads her to be educated at home – which in turn serves her to sprout an overactive imagination.
Fast forward to modern-day (well, 1997 to be exact) Montmartre, Paris where Amelie is all grown up, motherless (due to a bizarre accident) and working ...
