...and Xmas Special. I've done Extras series 1. I've dried up on Gervais/Merchant sitcoms…that is until last Monday, when the 'critically acclaimed' second series of Extras arrived in our shop windows. Any good though? You bet!
Series one saw Gervais manage to get the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Stiller, Patrick Stewart, Kate Winslet and of course Les Dennis to appear in a comedy about an television extra, Andy Millman (played by Gervais) who's ... ...Thankfully the extras, on the Extras DVD, are plentiful. As with all Gervais' stuff, there's a 'making of' style documentary which includes interviews with a number of the big stars that appear. Of course outtakes are there, a short programme entitled "The Art Of Corpsing" which is a development from the outtakes where they discuss the problem of when they start laughing, and just can't stop. And finally "Taping Nigel II" - in series 1 they included ...

as the next series arrives of extras, andy millian (ricky gervais), still a desperate man, may not have an acting career, however he now has a script for a new comedy and loads of ambition. however his useless agent (stephen merchant) is still holding him back from his dreams and only getting him extra work.
this second series of the award winning comedt, is just as funny as the first and featuring guest appearences form stars like, Orlando Bloom, ... ...Lindsay, Robert De Niro and of course Barry from Eastenders.
it is definatly a really find.

Advantages: the celebs Disadvantages: that there arent more episodes!!!!
I love this programme. Some of it is so cringe worthy that you almost cant watch it but thats what makes it so funny. I love how they have someone famous in every episode and they all seem to poke fun rather than be out to make themselves look good. I think ricky and his co stars and consistently funny throughout both series but the second series definately shows the growth of the programme. I can watch each episode over and over again and still ...

Advantages: Clever Scripts, Amazingly Acted, Great CGI Effects Disadvantages: There Aren't Any Extras On The DVD
...of you may think that it doesn't warrant a 5 star rating, just watching the episodes ca prove you wrong. It's completely unmissable viewing, and makes sense to watch as a series. Although there are no extras on the DVD what-so-ever, it's a complete steal: 2h15 minutes of television gold for only around £8, less if you're a bargain hunter. This DVD is a must have in any Sci-Fi fan's collection, and if you're not a Sci-Fi fan it deserves a place on you shelf anyway. Because once you've watched it, there is no going back....

Advantages: good cast/plot, new mysteries appear, some answered, decent DVD extras Disadvantages: only half of the series, need 1st half as well, need to pay attention
...similarities to Oasis.
However since the introduction to the Tail section survivors, Michelle Rodriguez (The Fast and the Furious, S.W.A.T) and Cynthia Watros also star in the show, playing Ana-Lucia (LA cop) and Libby (a clinical psychologist) respectively.
This season, like the last, has around 24 episodes, so theres no surprise that "Part 2" has the last 12 episodes and the other 12 on "Part 1". Also included in the box set are the usual special features we all expect from a DVD release - audio commentary, deleted scenes, behind the scenes etc. as well as a few easter eggs hidden away.
Personally i would skip this DVD box set and go straight for the whole series2 collection as it might save you a bit of cash and will probably have a few more extras. I also advice new viewers to go out and watch the first series and the first half...

DVD Description
Series two of EXTRAS finds former television and film extra Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) commissioned by the BBC to create and star in the sitcom 'When The Whistle Blows'. However, Andy's initial happiness with his achievement is soon quelled when he finds he has to make a lowest common denominator show in order to appeal to the broadest possible audience. Andy's sitcom has been transformed from a show that was in many ways like Gervais' groundbreaking previous show THE OFFICE into a catchphrase-driven show that's filmed in front of a studio audience. Additionally, he has been told that he has to wear large glasses and a curly perm wig. The second series of EXTRAS sees Millman attempting to adjust to fame and life in the public eye and the compromises that come with. Guest stars include Robert De Niro, Orlando Bloom, David Bowie, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Jonathan Ross, Sir Ian McKellen, and Daniel Radcliffe.
