Maniac Cop meets Maniac Kate

Advantages: Shows flair and attention to detail.
Disadvantages: Could have expanded and thus improved on the new storyline.

Officer Kate Sullivan (Gretchen Becker), nicknamed ?Maniac Kate? for her use of excessive force, finds herself caught up in a shoot out when a junkie attempts to steal pharmaceuticals from a store. She takes down the junkie and his fake hostage/accomplice, getting shot in the process and leaving her in a coma. Scandal soon follows as incomplete video footage of Kate shooting the believed hostage is found with no evidence to exonerate her. To make matters worse Kate was using illegal hollow point bullets. Close friend and detective Sean McKinney (Robert Davi) takes an interest in the case while also investigating a number of unusual homicides. ?Maniac Cop? also takes an interest in the case, finding an affinity with Kate as a wronged police officer; his back-story is covered at the beginning of the film (see spoiler at the bottom of this ...

2001 Maniacs - Slightly misses the mark

Advantages: Great gore scenes, acting is so bad its laughable
Disadvantages: Acting, acting and uh.... acting!

c1985 Dir. Tim Sullivan A remake of legendary gore-meister Hershell Gordon-Lewis? 2000 Maniacs, 2001 Maniacs goes for the ?so bad its good? style of horror but slightly misses the mark. Three college slackers, Anderson, Corey and Nelson are on their way to Spring Break in Florida when an unexpected detour takes them into the small, off the map town of Pleasant Valley, South Carolina. They are joined by 3 drifters; Joey, Kat and Ricky, and biker couple Malcolm and Leah, who have all also arrived in the small town as a result of the road detour. They are all welcomed as guests of honour for the town?s annual ?Guts and Glory Festival?, led by the sinister Mayor Buckman (Robert ?Freddy? Englund). Unknown to the 8 unsuspecting Northerners however, they are the main course of the festival BBQ, and they are killed off one by one in ultra gory ...

Review of 2001 Maniacs (DVD)

Low Budget ?Slasher? Film fights Mediocrity

Advantages: Good central story with well played bad guy.
Disadvantages: Low production values, story drags, weak dialogue.

MANIAC COP (1988) Tagline: ?You have the right to remain silent. Forever.? A series of horrific murders have occurred on the streets of New York. They appear related. Witnesses identify the killer as wearing a police officer?s uniform. Officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) suddenly becomes the prime suspect with even his wife doubting him. With the help of love interest Theresa Mallory (Laurene Landon) and detective Frank McCrae (Tom Atkins) he mounts his own investigation to clear his name, which leads to some startling discoveries about an old and supposedly closed case. William Lustig (Maniac) makes a strong impact at the start of the film with a number of brutal deaths. From there on he slow things down a little as it becomes more of a thriller than horror. The movie suffers most from low production values, which will put ...
