exorcism. Has the demon returned? And if so, can the combined faith and knowledge of a Vatican investigator (Richard Burton) and a hypnotic research specialist (Louise Fletcher) free her from its grasp?Employing production design and special effects that are dizzily exhilarating and supporting cast (Max Von Sydow, Paul Henreid, James Earl Jones) of compelling distinction, director John Boorman draws us into the tangible experience of evil. We fly with the demon, feel the African landscape vibrate and get engulfed in the terror of swarming locusts as Exorcist II: The Heretic weaves it's fascinating, frightful spell.

screen. A much-anticipated sequel to the Oscar-winning original, it turned out to be an unintentionally hilarious mishmash and received such terrible reviews that director John Boorman yanked it out of cinemas. He reedited it, cutting eight minutes in hopes of getting the story (written by William Goodhart) to the point of coherency--but to no avail. The film remains a kind of reverse gold standard for sequels. It's still a ridiculously overacted, although at times visually haunting, movie. Richard Burton stars as a troubled priest (something of a speciality of his) who is brought in to follow up on the case of Linda Blair, who is institutionalised, still troubled by her encounter with the devil (who wouldn't be?). By the time they confront Satan's minion in the final struggle, you'll be rooting for evil to win. --Marshall Fine

A compelling story about a young girl whom was possessed by the devil. The film which was previously banned thanks to the church made a big impact on the public when it was originally released.
The girl becomes possessed in the first film, the church becomes involved in order to rid her of the demon. She survives and then goes on to make a second film years later after the first film caused a nervous breakdown for the young actress.
The second film takes place four years later. After being hypnotised the evil is traced back to the cult of the locusts. This was a great film but not as heart stopping as the first.
The third film is about the young priest from the first film whom was posessed by a serial killer who was executed at the same time as the original exorcism was taking place.
A great set of film's. 100% must see. They are great original movies, was one of the scariest films around. The intensity of these films make them great. The director obviousy wanted to scare the crap out of the viewers with the way he uses the dark and gloomy atmoshere with the spine chillin music aand he does it very well. He also does a very good job with the sequels because he connects all three, even the though third one has nothing to do with the young girl. The strong points are they way it was directed, the way it does its job by scaring you esspecially when the devil flashes up for a few seconds,at 2 or 3 points durin the film. The only bad ponts is the fact that when it was rerealsed there was to much media coverage and it was too hyped up. It is scary but definetly not one of the scariest film around. All the actors have put so muh in to the film to make it great, you can tell whilst watchin the films that they put so much into the film. Along with the director they make this a fantastic scary film. If definetly you like being scared and you like horrors you have to see this film.

DVD Description
This creepy collection presents all three films in the EXORCIST trilogy. THE EXORCIST - With THE EXORCIST, director William Friedkin rivals Hitchcock for heart-stopping terror in this deeply horrifying masterpiece that led to religious boycotts, fainting and nauseous audiences, and a commercial success that forever changed Hollywood. Linda Blair plays Regan, a 12-year-old girl possessed by a demon. After exhausting all the options of science, psychology, and medicine, Regan's mother (Ellen Burstyn) realizes the supernatural nature of her daughter's condition and resorts to a religious solution, turning to Father Karras (Jason Miller) for an exorcism. Aided by the mysterious Jesuit exorcist Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow), Karras must confront not only supernatural phenomena but also his own inadequate faith and displaced guilt over his mother's recent death, a personal torment the demonic Regan uses to manipulate him, with disturbing results. EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC - Richard Burton stars as exorcist Father Philip Lamont in John Boorman's sequel to THE EXORCIST. The cleric, who is struggling with his faith, is investigating the death of Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow), who was killed in the course of exorcising the Assyrian demon Pazuzu from Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair). Although now seemingly normal, Regan continues to be monitored at a psychiatric institute by Dr. Gene Tuskin (Louise Fletcher). In an attempt to plumb her memories of exorcism, Dr. Tuskin has hypnotized the girl, to whom she's linked by a "synchronizer" and is so overcome by "witnessing" Regan's memory of the event that Lamont has to rescue her. After a tour of the Georgetown house where the exorcism took place, Lamont returns to be coupled with Regan by synchronizer. The priest is spirited to the past by Pazuzu to observe Father Merrin exorcising a young boy, Kokumo (Joey Green), in Africa. Learning that the boy developed special powers to fight Pazuzu, who appears as a swarm of locusts, Lamont journeys to Africa, defying his superior, to seek help from the adult Kokumo (James Earl Jones). THE EXORCIST III - Screenwriter of THE EXORCIST, William Peter Blatty, takes up the helm of this sequel. On the 15th anniversary of the exorcism that claimed the life of a young priest, a nightmarish series of bizarre, religious murders haunts a local police lieutenant (George C. Scott).
