Linda Blair returns 4 years later to reprise her role as Regan MacNeil, once again being the best thing in an Exorcist film.
This film basically has her in a rehab unit, recovering from the traumas of being possessed in the first film.
A priest called Father Lamont (played brilliantly by Richard Burton) comes to interview her and try and find out what really happened to Father Merrin all those years ago.
They use a contraption (a synchronizer??) to bring their minds together and travel through the mental cosmos to find out what really happened from an African priest who knows about Pazazu (the demon that possessed Regan), who havers on about leopards for no real reason.
Anyways, when alls said and done, some woman dies in a car fire and nothing really happens to Regan or Lamont. I did kind of fall asleep for 5 minutes so might have missed a bit of the plot, but there didn't seem to be much happening anyway.
The film was directed by John Boorman, who does a decent job with no real plot to work with, he's not really done anything of note recently - just Deliverance back in the early 70s.
The cast included... Linda Blair - St Louis, Missouri - best known for her role as Regan in the first film - she also popped up briefly as a reporter in Scream in 1996. the late Richard Burton - Pontrhydyfen, Wales - probably best known as being the husband of serial marrier Liz Taylor, as he didn't really play many big roles. James Earl Jones - Arkabutla, Mississippi - was the voice of Darth Vader obviously, although have to admit, I never knew he was black! Ned Beatty - Louisville, Kentucky - best known for squeaking like a pig whilst getting sodomised by a mountain man in Deliverance (and for being Dan Connor's dad in Roseanne) his ex-wife Belinda was also in Exorcist II and Deliverance.
Rating: 18 in the UK; R in the US Running Time: 118 minutes, although it does seem a good bit longer than that.
Things I've learned from this film: 1. Peanuts can be used to imitate locusts if you're short of budget. 2. If you can't remember something, synchronize your brain with an alcoholic playing a priest, that'll remind you of things. 3. "If Pazuzu comes for you I will spit a leopard!" Oh, well that'll make it better then :-)
Is this worth the money?
Well I wouldn't go out and buy it if I were you! I got it in the trilogy boxset
