Excel = Fits of Laughter
Review of Excel Saga - Vol. 1 - Episodes 1-5 DVD by K1LLU4

Advantages: The characters are so insane and energetic YOU will need a sedative after watching them!!
Disadvantages: There is no apparent plot, this series could go on forever without moving forward.

One aspect of this series that can quickly be realised after the first couple of episodes is that it's popularity and energy all stems from the character Excel. She is an amazingly strange girl who is loud and obsessed with her leader Ilpalazzo, she is clueless and quite likely to die as she did in the first episode (no kidding). What I especially like is that the writer Koshi Rikdo has also been animated and appears at the beginning of every episode ...
...anime into...whatever!. This is just an experimental anime and every episode there is a different theme: animals, rock, drama, war. With hilarious results!!. My only problem is the cast for the English Dub. I recommend you watch this series with the Japanese Audio switched on, the Japanese cast far surpass the American cast. ... Read review

DVD Description

Billed as "the ultimate parody of anime," EXCEL SAGA certainly goes out of its way to parody every convention of the genre it can. From the cloying J-pop opening, it's clear that this series' sole aim is to be a good-natured farce, one that revolves around a main character who, on the surface is not much different from any other anime heroine. However, the key difference between Excel and all those who preceded her is that Excel is completely and utterly insane and considers it her goal to conquer the city of F. This gives the series a clear and ingenious jumping off point as it encounters Martian princesses, afro-wearing action heroes, mysterious governmental agencies, space butlers, deranged comic book authors, annoying roommates, and removable moustaches, among other things.
