What is more interesting is that no one has written a review on this great film.
Well lets start with the basics, the 4 main characters are:
David Duchovny (Ira)
David Duchovny is better known for his starring role in the hit TV series “The X-Files”. His portrayal of FBI agent Fox Mulder. The series has brought him a golden globe and countless more nominations. He has also starred in many other films. Return To Me The X-Files Playing God Kalifornia The Rapture Julia Has Two Lovers Rollie Chaplin Beethoven Twin Peaks He appeared in the “Red Shoe Diaries”, as the narrator a couple of times and is also a star of the stage. Just to prove that not all actors are as bright as a two watt light bulb, here are some of the talents that he has on his résumé. He attended Princeton University. He got his masters in English Lit from Yale and was on his way to his P.H.D, when he decide to become an actor.
In this film he plays a University Professor. He makes the alarming discovery with his friend and colleague Harry.
Orlando Jones (Harry)
Although he hasn’t
starred in any major TV shows (that I know of) , Orlando Jones has appeared in a lot of films. Say It Isn’t So Double take The Replacements Bedazzled Office Space Sour Grapes Chain Of Fools Magnolia Waterproof New Jersey Turnpikes In Harms Way Woo The Time Machine He started off in a TV show called “A Different Stroke”.
He also plays a University Professor. He invites his friend and colleague Ira to see a metier that has fallen to earth.
Seann William Scott (Wayne)
All of us with a sense of humor will have seen the film “American Pie”, in which he stars as “Stifler” and his funny role in the smash hit “Road Trip”. His film list is impressive. American Pie ˝ Final Destination Road Trip Dude, Where’s My Car Evolution Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back Stark Raving Mad All the films I have seen him in are great. He always plays the clown and he does it so well. This film is no exception.
He plays a harmless guy studying to become a fireman.
Julianne Moore (Allison)
No TV shows to my knowledge, but lots of films and S*** loads of awards and award nominations. You might wanna take a nap after this film list. The Hours World Traveler The Shipping news Evolution Hannibal Not I The Ladies Man Magnolia End Of The Affair A Map Of The World An Ideal Husband Cookie’s Fortune Welcome To Hollywood Psycho Chicago Cab The Big Lebowski Boogie Nights The Myth Of Fingerprints The Lost World: Jurassic Park Assassins Nine Months Safe She certainly gets around. This is another dint to the Pretty so dumb statement. Julianne Moore earned her B.F.A from Boston University’s School For Performing Arts. Then went on to star in a number of Broadway shows. Pretty and Talented.
She plays a scientist that works for the US Government.
The starts by showing you the meteorite coming from space and entering the atmosphere in a fire ball. It then cuts to a guy’s (Seann William Scott) car traveling down a dust road at night. He pulls up next to what looks like a Wendy house and gets out. With him he has a human size doll. He drags it into the Wendy house and douses the place with petrol. He then retreats to a safe distance and throws a match through the window. He then starts his stop watch and kicks the door down and gets the doll. He retrieves the doll and starts to do CPR on it. He looks up to see the metier coming towards him. He starts to run and just about gets far enough away. It hits the ground between his car and the shack. It blows the shack up and sends his car fling into the air. It shows you the creator and then cuts to the University. David Duchovny is in a lecture hall addressing his class. He kindly explains to two of his pupils why they got the grades. Ira (David Duchovny) and his friend Harry (Orlando Jones) go out to the site of the metier. They go down into the cavern it is in. where they see three cops poising for pictures next to the meteorite. They examine the meteorite and find out that it bleeds. They se a little pickaxe to break off a piece and take it back to the lab for testing. Ira finds that the liquid is very strange. The film then cuts to a scene in the university gym. It’s a volley ball match. Harry is the girls volley ball teams coach. Ira comes to him and explain the strange finding, he tells them that they are aliens.
I know it doesn’t seem to interesting yet but I assure you that it only gets funnier. This is just the period that all films have the boring bit at the beginning where it tells the story.
The mixture of the comedy and seriousness of both David Duchovny and Julianne Moore it self is funny. Julianne Moore is dead serious and tries to do everything spot on, but she always does something funny to mess it up. When you first see her, she walks up a couple of steps, goes to shake Ira’s hand and falls over. David Duchovny is always making fun of his friend Harry n the film, he makes witty comments about what his friend says. When the military takes over he pulls a moony at the general in charge. Seann William Scott, is so funny in this film. He’s the gormless one he’s always saying daft things and just generally doing daft things.
Orlando Jones is the token black guy in the film he brings the sarcasm to the film. He says and does some daft things, but has wit and some good material.
The stories great it’s ghost busters mixed with alien. A wanna be fireman two uni professors and a scientist safe the world from an alien invasion.
My advise is rent it from your video store or buy it, it’s a most see film.
