A broken computer and the hassles of a new term and job meant that I haven't been able to submit for a while, but I have written ops and will be submitting them periodically - so people know I'm not just in it for the money.

Evolution is a strange sort of film, instantly forgettable plot, actors you can’t quite put a name to even though you KNOW you’ve seen them before somewhere, and yet a hugely entertaining hour and a half of comedy! I went to see this film yesterday and can only just remember the ending, and I still find myself raving about it to everyone I meet! So, I advise everyone to go to watch this absurd, flimsy and hilariously, side-splittingly-funny film!
Taking into account the low (ish) budget and the virtually unknown actors (i.e., there's thing-a-me-bob from the X-files and that black dude from whats-a-film!), this film still has loads to offer. If you’ve seen the trailers, then you’d be expecting a comedy full of laughs. Well, this IS an amusing film with 6 or 7 moments when you WILL almost cry laughing. The special effects are lukewarm and the plot slightly wobbly, but the actors and script can suspend your belief effectively throughout. And, because the film is quite short (1.5 hours ish) you don’t really start to analyse flaws until you leave the theatre!
EVOLUTION Rating : PG Length : 1 and a halfish hours Type : Comedy meets sci-fi meets romance Stars : David Duchovny, … errrrm, that’s about it!
The Story: The film begins when two teachers – a real scientist and an honorary geologist – are called to the site of a meteor crash where they discover an extremely strange blue “goo”. When examined, this goo turns out to be an alien life-form, which evolves incredibly fast. Cue a government cover-up, an alien invasion, lots of computer-animated aliens, arrogant army generals and lots and lots of Napalm!
This is where the plot falls down (honestly, everything so far has been completely believeable!). Predictably, the American government is hugely incompetent and creates a giant, self replicating amoeba which will “take over the world within weeks if it’s not stopped!”. After some REALLY dodgy science, David Duchovny and friends use a fire engine to squirt copious amounts of Head and Shoulders (Yes, the anti-dandruff shampoo turns out to be highly toxic to giant, alien single-celled lifeforms) up said single- celled life-form's bum!
Suffice to say, the word is saved, David gets the girl and the stars are subsequently used in the Head and Shoulders advertisement campaign. What a film!
So, again, PLEASE go to watch this film, if only to reassure me that I’m not going slightly insane, because I loved it! Maybe I’m very easily pleased, but this combination of American Pie, the X-files and Jurassic Park had me (and the rest of the cinema) rolling in the aisles!
