Evita is, in my opinion, one of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's best musicals. It tells the true story of Eva Peron (nee Duarte), who was born into the working class, and grew up to be a famous actress and the first lady of Argentina - as one of the songs says, "the greatest social climber since Cinderella".
Like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, another Lloyd Webber musical, the film has a narrator. In Evita this is Che, played by Antonia Banderas. I think narrators are brilliant characters - they're there, and they know everything that's going on, and yet they can't get involved in the story. The part is played perfectly by Banderas.
Madonna stars as Eva and Jonathan Pryce as President Peron. Jimmy Nail plays Agustin Magaldi, one of Eva's early boyfriends. There are very few other main characters. Celebrities such as Andrea Corr and Billie Piper make appearances.
There is almost no dialogue at all, though I think this matters very little as the songs are so good! They're very different and very catchy. All the cast sing brilliantly. Highlights include "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", "High Flying, Adored" and, of course, "Don't Cry For Me Argentina".
I would definitely recommend the soundtrack. There are 2 version - the highlights, which is cheaper, or the full soundtrack, which is more expensive but includes all 45 tracks.
I think the only disadvantages are that you find out what happens right at the beginning - fine for people who already knew the story, but kind of annoying for those who don't! Also, many of the songs are repeated.
For people who don't like musicals, steer clear of this! But for those who do, this is a fantastic film! 2 hours and 2 minutes of brilliant music, brilliant acting...it's just brilliant!
What you wrote is good and evita does sound good may have to go and rent it out sometime or wait for tv release. One improvement maybe would be to write a little more on the actors - madonna and Jonathan Pryce did they act convincingly, what were high points, low points in the film.
