Only Fools and Horses - Series 1
Review of Only Fools And Horses - The Complete Series 1 DVD by  TheHairyGodmother

Advantages: Hilarious comedy from the Trotter brothers, never ending enjoyment
Disadvantages: none

...ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES - THE COMPLETE SERIES 1 Originally transmitted: 08/09/1981 - 28/12/1981 For anyone who has never watched Only Fools and Horses you are missing out on a wonderful part of our television history. Only Fools and Horses follows the lives of the two Trotter brother, Derek and Rodney as they try to earn a living in every way that they can. UNfortunately, more often than not this is through, shall we say, "alternative" means. The comedy is based around Peckham in South London and when the show first started, nobody even thought how successful it was to become. The characters all the way through have been masterfully developed and wonderfully cast to create a total cast that never fails to amuse and excite. These days, I would say that most people in Britain have at least heard of del and Rodney Trotter, and most... Read review

Just the wonderful, hilarious shows...
Review of Red Dwarf - Just The Shows Vol. 1 (Box Set) (Series 1-4) by  CaptainDisaster

Advantages: All the shows, some are true classics, none are stinkers...
Disadvantages: ... Red Dwarf can be a bit of an acquired taste, I suppose...

...- at least at some point in time. Star of one of the funniest episodes ever (Queeg). After he meets his female counterpart in Parallel Universe, he decides to take her form in Series 3. Holly is never as funny in series 3 and 4 as in 1 and 2, but not a complete disaster. Played by: Norman Lovett (series 1 and 2), Hattie Hayridge (series 3 and 4). If I remember rightly, Holly reverted back to his old self and was played by Lovett again in series 6 (though after 5 it was never anywhere near as good). Episode Guide Series One The End It all begins (ironic, huh?) The characters are introduced and not a great deal happens (unless you count 3m years passing, the extinction of the entire crew, and the emergence of a new life-form as nothing…). Holly plays a starring role, especially as he tries to explain to Lister that all the crew... Read review

An excellent addition to any DVD collection
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring DVD by  Simoncook1

Advantages: Excellent movie and very good DVD extras
Disadvantages: Some repetition of interviews

...but they are well done. Gollum – although only seen occasionally in this movie it does seem that this character is done well. You see him sitting on a rock looking into a pool and also see him being tortured. I cannot fully comment on him until the second movie (there is a little more in the DVD extras about Gollum and about how he is perhaps the most ‘real’ animated character ever as the technology used does tend to mirror the actors movements pretty closely. Orcs – these are the foot soldiers of Sauron and are (in this movie) a cross between a gorilla and an elf. They are fairly gruesome and do resemble the orcs that I envisioned while reading the books. I perhaps expected them to be a little larger than in the movie. Ogre – very similar to the Ogre in Harry Potter, this ogre does seem very menacing and realistic... Read review
